Yep, that is a great series. I'm hopeful that the Thorn of Emberlain will finally get released this year.

I think I've posted on a previous recommendation thread, but I'm really interested in Generation Ship books. Does anyone have a good recommendation? I'm thinking of starting with Kim Stanley Robinson's Aurora.
about 2 hours into the 16 hour audiobook of Aurora,, seems well written, but, not much action yet, more just talking about life onboard so fargigemags-99 said:

All 3 Words of Radiance books by Brandon Sanderson (start with Way of Kings) are only $2.99 in ebook format until Nov 5th.
don't pick up aurora if you're looking for a generation ship book. too rambling and preachy, is an 'anti-scifi' novel07ag said:about 2 hours into the 16 hour audiobook of Aurora,, seems well written, but, not much action yet, more just talking about life onboard so fargigemags-99 said:

If you liked WoT, and enjoy larger epic fantasy, then I would suggest going straight into the Stormlight Archive series. It is, in my opinion, the best high fantasy series currently going.
You could also start with Mistborn, which is outstanding as well. You'll be reading those for awhile, as there are two series within the same universe.

I'm leaning towards just jumping in on the Stormlight Archives with Way of Kings.
Holy crap! Another money grab series of ten planned books and only 3 are out to date. GRRM is jealous.Chipotlemonger said:

At least Sanderson isn't fat and old. He puts out books like a machine.RPM said:Holy crap! Another money grab series of ten planned books and only 3 are out to date. GRRM is jealous.Chipotlemonger said:

I took 2 classes from Dr Palmer while she was teaching at A&M, and she was by far the best professor I ever had. She's an incredible teacher and an undeniable genius - expert on medieval literature, Florentine history, the Renaissance, etc., especially how people interacted with books like Lucretius in medieval times. When I saw she had a book series coming out I was super excited, because she was my advisor on my senior research project on Asimov and I just knew whatever she wrote had to be great. So once the book was published, I found a copy on the shelf at the bookstore, read the first couple pages, thought "LOL, of COURSE this is the kind of crazy thing Ada wrote!", and then put it back and haven't read it.YouBet said:
Posted this another thread but it should go here. I started Too Like the Lightening by Ada Palmer and I'm 50/50 on it so far. Actually put it down and I'm reading Heir to the Empire instead. Not sure I like the writing style of the former. It's overly complex from a style perspective IMO. Anyway else read it?
I just finished read the first book. It was so freaking good! Just started the second.israeliag said:
Three Body Problem (series composed of Three Body Problem [2015 Hugo Award winner], Dark Forest, and Death's End) by Cixin Liu
Terrific series by a Chinese writer. I won't go into the plot, but it's not what I expected from a Chinese Sci-Fi, and the second book manages to be even better. I'm still reading the third book (about 2/3 through) so I'm saving judgment on it, but so far each book has had its own unique and fascinating theme that evolve out of the story so well.
