I recently finished the Red Rising trilogy (great books btw), and am looking for some new titles. I've been stumped, because i feel like I've pretty much covered everything that is well-publicized. I'm a big sic-fi/fantasy reader. Ideas?

So far, I've read:

Martin - GoT
Erikson - Malazan Book of the Fallen
Cline - Ready Player One and Armada
Sanderson - Stormlight Archive books, Mistborn (all 5, plus novella), Reckoners
Abercrombie - All of his books
Rothfuss - All of his books
Robin Hobb - All 9 Fitz & the Fool books
Lynch - All of the Gentlemen *******s books
Ryan - Raven's Shadow trilogy
Butcher - Codex Alera series, Cinder Spires, Dresden books
Weeks - Lightbringer series
McClellan - Powder Mage series
Lawrence - Broken Empire series
Staveley - Chronicle of the Unhewn Throne series
Howey - Shift Omnibus series
Cronin - Passage trilogy

I've gotten through 4 books of WoT, and can't bring myself to go on.

It's a bit older, but a quirky linguist from England made up a whole world complete with mythology, language, culture, history and poetry for a dozen major races.

He had a funny name, but the setting is called "middle earth". Definitely worth the read!

In kind of the same boat as you, OP, and I just finished reading first book of The Expanse series, Leviathan Wakes. It was pretty good. Watching the TV series now that I'm done. It's space opera, not fantasy, but I'm trying to branch out some.

I haven't read some of the series on your list, though, so I'll have to check them out.

I'd recommend Larry Correia's Monster Hunter series and Grimnoir Chronicles.

It might be another list omission, but anything by Gaiman.

Is Raymond Feist worth reading everything? I stopped a book or two after King's Buccaneer and Prince of the Blood. I recently saw that the universe is coming to an end.

Terry Good kind is another who had great story ideas but went deep into political and philosophical discussions, slowing down the pace. I saw that his universe is also ending but read reviews that it was not worth the closure to read.

Agree with recommendations for James SA Corey, Gaiman, Heinlein (but then throw in Asimov's and Bradbury as well).

The Jackal of Nar series by John Marco was enjoyable. So were the early books by David Webber about Honor Harrington (Horatio Hornblower in space) until the scope of her power and the plot goes too far.

if you read any contemporary fantasy, you MUST include Butcher's Dresden Files.

edit- Raymond FEIST

I've read some Gaiman (Stardust, Coraline & good Omens), and i wasn't a huge fan. Honestly, i haven't really looked hard at any of his books. Any specific ones you liked?

I'll probably start Corey's Expanse series, as i watched the show.

I've never read any Feist or Goodkind, but will look into those as well.

Can't believe you don't have the Dark Tower series by Stephen King on there.

Good call. I've read tons of King's work, but have never picked up Dark Tower.

Easily one of my favorite fantasy series of all time.

My favorite is one you've already read... Codex Alera. I've probably read that series ten times

Yeah, Codex Alera was really good. I also keep going back to Sanderson's Stormlight Archive books, and all of Rothfuss' books.

Drives me nuts when you find an amazing series, burn through the first few, only to find out that the last ones are years away from being finished.

Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.
Terry Mancour's Spellmonger series (Kindle only)

One of the reasons I dropped WoT at book six. That and the God awful slow pace....

I normally won't pick up a series unless it's either done or the books are stand alone with the same main characters; Ala Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz

I love feist. Read and have them all. His midkemia universe is one I grew up with.

And though its probably considered YA material I recommend Wool. That breakout Amazon trilogy. For an indie writer it really impressed me.

I'd say probably the Sandman books, Anansi Boys, and Neverwhere. American Gods is one of my favorite books, but it seems to be one of those books you either really love or really hate.

Can you be more specific on the Wool recommendation? Not exactly a unique search term there.

I have those in the list. It's the Shift Omnibus series, by Hugh Howey. Wool, Dust, and a third title I can't recall.

Good books

Lois M Bujold's Vorkisigan's saga. Part space opera, part military sci fi.

A series that might not have been read by a lot of people that I also would recommend is The Banned and the Banished by James Clemens.
