.... and how did the face-down swimming zombie make the screaming sound? don't you need air in your lungs to make a sound? this can be applied to all zombies on land whose lungs have been eaten out or decomposed.

... and since zombies are decomposing, wouldn't there also be schools of fish eating off of them in the ocean?

... and how did all those zombies miraculously appear on the beach? they don't really care to use stairs, so i guess they could have shown them walking off the cliffs then getting back up to pursue the survivors.

.... and once a zombie loses it's eyes and sense of smell (not to mention ear drums decomposing), wouldn't they essentially be walking around completely unaware of where anyone is?

GTFO of here with your science.

Soo dead bodies float. Do they merely drift? Is clawing toward something effective at moving them forward?

Walkers walk, innate function. Swimming isnt, but if they are moving their legs as if they were on land, they might get marginal propulsion.

Walkers eat animals in TWD. Walkers in the ocean would eat fish, right?

I would say "good luck catching a fish, slow mofos". But somehow land walkers are able to catch horses.

Interesting idea of salt water destroying flesh through osmosis....may take a few weeks but human skin cant withstand salt water for long periods of time.

So they somehow know how to walk even though they are dead. They should know how to swim, right?

Walking is innate. Swimming is learned. Eating is innate. Grabbing for food is learned.

So I guess there is no consistency unless you go full-Romero (brains can recall things).

As others have said I am just not identifying with any of these characters. I hope things change.

Pretty weak opener for the season. Everybody but Strand is useless. Obviously the girl's radio buddy is going to try to hijack the yacht. I don't understand why Strand didn't grab the radio when he found out what she was doing. Why the hell was the yacht not moving at the end (I thought it had autopilot)? With a 3000mi range heading to a remote island would seem to be the best plan (but would not make for much zombie action i guess).

True, but only because it doesn't involve having to hold one's breath to accomplish it. If we had gills, i'm sure at some point we'd know how to paddle around under water without going to swim lessons.

Just watched.

Not as bad to me as it was to some of y'all. Agreed the timeline from end of season 1 to end of season 2:1 is pretty lame, though. The acting is pretty good.

Dead bodies do not float initially. Gas production from decomposition is what makes them float.

if the world is coming to an end then altruism is the last thing on my mind.

the whole "WE HAVE TO SAVE THEM111!!!" repeated line is just plain silly.

I thought they were underway the whole time in motion - yet every shot from the boat looked like they were stopped. I didn't know you could catch eels trolling.

Since we are pointing out inconsistencies and all.

TEAM STRAND

Right, especially when you are on the boat with your FAMILY, part of which has already been killed. I would think they'd be even more dedicated to self/family preservation than even Strand.

I'd like to think you folks are overstating your ability to just roll on by 40-50 people stranded in the middle of the ocean who are doomed without your help because there might be a risk.

Johnny Derp went to all that trouble for a freaking boat log? He triumphantly emerged from the water holding it up and was like "derp."

Um...its not merely a security risk.

Potable water and food are limited supplies. Sure they have a salt water filter, but who knows its capacity and durability? Are the 40 people gonna be a net benefit to you? Likely not.

Why expose yourself to risk?

I fast forwarded through parts of that episode it was so slow.
The characters are not only hard to identify with, but the settings are also hard for me to identify and stay interested in.

As to the question above, in any SHTF scenario, especially the zombie apocalypse, I would no doubt pass up 40-50 stranded people.
I would consider helping 4-5 people if it were women and children, but no way I pick up a boat of strangers who would out number my crew almost 7 to 1 or more.

I can assure you that I am not. Limited room, limited food, and no idea what the hell is going down with the world and how long my family will need to sustain itself on those limited resources? I wouldn't entertain for a second the thought of taking 40-50 desperate people onto my boat. I may feel bad and pour one out for them as I rolled by, but I would sure as **** roll right on by.

Especially after the riots they saw and the way the military treated them.

I think I'm too far into the main series of TWD to sympathize or associate with any of these characters. I thought that the initial break down of L.A. was cool. However, following around another group of people watching them slowly figure things out for however many seasons just doesn't really appeal to me. I've seen this "we can save them" and "continue to be human" stuff once already. At least Strand gets it. I may come back to it if I hear good things but right now I just don't have the interest. I was fast forwarding through some of the dialogue on dvr this evening. A break from the universe after the whole cliff hanger nonsense might not hurt either.

They need to replace the dad with Christopher Walken. Short of that, the show is a lost cause.

I'd be heartbroken for them but id also look at them as a threat to my family's survival so I'd just keep rolling by.

Episode was not so good. I am not a huge fan of TWD or FTWD for that matter, but I watched this episode hoping I could get into the show. I could not. Overall in TWD/FTWD universe there are just too many issues that go against logic and science that I cannot let slide (from both a show perspective and character perspective).

As mentioned by a previous poster, I think the producers really missed the opportunity to portray how society would react to an outbreak situation. I started watching FTWD hoping this would happen, but I was/am let down.

I think most people are disappointed and agree with your last point. They previewed the show like it was a prelim to TWD. But no, we already have groups raiding up and down the coast.

Sure the military was still around in this episode, presumably flying from an aircraft carrier, but ****, they really went straight to their money making formula. Which is lame because I don't know how they'll keep making money just doing spinoffs of the same universe.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised... shows like CSI do the same thing.

And how the government reacted. I would have liked a little time spent on how they went from initial reports of "something going on" to military action and decisions to carpet bomb cities with millions of people in them. We never got to see what happened to the President and cabinet and Joint Chiefs and Pentagon with TWD. Could have at least had a couple of sick Congressmen wrecking shop on the House floor, or a Secret Service agent taking down some White House personnel before the Pres escapes in Marine One. Then having the hard decisions to possibly kill millions of civilian survivors to contain the outbreak.

Instead, we get another small group centered on a fairly unlikable family, complete with mopey teen angst and a "leader" who makes stupid decisions.
