Just FYI, Maisie Williams (Arya) asked the producers if Syrio was dead and they said yes. My take is Jaqen H'ghar was Syrio... He's been with Arya since the beginning of her journey.

Make sure you get the versions narrated by Roy Dotrice.

A Faceless Man can obviously fake his appearance, but can he fake a lifetime history? As some random nobody, sure. But as the former military commander of the most-powerful of the nine Free Cities for YEARS? It would be like some guy walking into the palace in Pentos and claiming to be Tywin Lannister.

I went ahead and paid $40 for the first book and will try it out. I didn't want to do audible and end up with a recurring $15/month subscription I forget to ever cancel...

All that being said; If it does come down to a Trail by 7 - I expect there to be some odd people involved, some surprises, and nobody comes out happy with the result!
Something like Jon Snow fighting for Cersei and dying after he wins from some fatal wound sounds about right.

Download the free app, Overdrive, then check out audiobooks for free from the library. If your library doesn't suck you can get most anything with little to no wait. If your library sucks, find a friend who lives in a better neighborhood and use their library card info. I listened to Dotrice narrate all five books.
quote:I'm not aware of anything from legit sources - I'd love a link to a site that isn't a fantasy version of Bleacher Report. GRRM's last official update made this seem very, very unlikely and he's never, in the history of ever, erred on the side of finishing early rather than late.
By the way - there seems to be a ton of smoke around the idea that WoW might be released as early as this month. It's hard to believe there'd not be Amazon pre-sales if true.

Can someone explain the Howland Reed / High Sparrow theory? Is there any evidence supporting that?
If true, was it all an elaborate plot for revenge for Ned Stark?

Here's the thing about R+L=J; it don't matter if R was married to L. This isn't about Jon having a right to the throne. It is about dragons. That dragon don't care about marriage. That dragon just knows jon has that awesome Targaryen blood flowing in his veins.
As for the Iron Throne, the only thing that matters is that Aerys and his sister-wife Rhaella produced the mother of dragons. That means Daenerys, Jon, and a player-to-be-named later can swoop in with 3 dragons and 100,000 screaming Dothraki and save all of us from Winter. Then, Daenerys can marry her sweet nephew Aegon and rule Westeros until the end of their days.
The first day on the Iron Throne they will legitimize Jon.

quote:Yes, we did. Why does everyone ignore GRRM when he says that Syrio didn't survive?
We never got confirmation anywhere that Syrio was killed

I'm not attesting to the sources, but Google "Wnds of Winter release date" and there are multiple sources saying the manuscript is at the publisher. I'm not claiming any type of special info - just those results.
Of course the Internet would never lie to me.

Then again, Ned did prove himself to be somewhat naive. Maybe Jaqen/Syrio walked up with a resume and Ned hired him on the spot.

Look, I've said before, and I will say again, I don't play games with news about the books. I know how many people are waiting, how long they have been waiting, how anxious they are. I am still working on WINDS. When it's done, I will announce it here. There won't be any clues to decipher, any codes or hidden meanings, the announcement will be straightforward and to the point. I won't time it to coincide with Xmas or Valentine's Day or Lincoln's Birthday, the book will not rise from the dead with Jesus on Easter Sunday. When it is done, I will say that's it is done, on whatever day I happen to finish.
I don't know how I can make it any clearer.
quote:
But no, I can't tell you when it will be done, or when it will be published. Best guess, based on our previous conversations, is that Bantam (and presumably my British publisher as well) can have the hardcover out within three months of delivery, if their schedules permit. But when delivery will be, I can't say. I am not going to set another deadline for myself to trip over. The deadlines just stress me out.
I am going back to my stance from last March, before all this. It will be done when it's done. And it will be as good as I can possibly make it.

Go research it on GOT-devoted message boards. I believe in this theory.

Is anyone else kinda over reading the remaining books? If I know how the story is progressing, I don't care to read 20 pages describing the garb of Cersei while she waits for Tommen to visit.

Not completely sure of the history but wouldn't Jamie know who Howland Reed is?
