Anybody else like to pretend Star Wars episodes 1-3 never happened?

Call me crazy, but I never cared much for episodes 1-3. It felt like they were trying to hard to recreate the magic that was 4-6. I also didn't care for the remastering that was done by adding in all sorts of new CGI crap into 4-6, especially replacing David Prowse with Hayden Christensen as the ghost of Darth Vader.

No. It's the story George Lucas wanted to tell, whether people like to accept it or not.

I enjoy them all.

Sorry, I always get Prowse and Sebastian Shaw mixed up.

Not hard to pretend. They didn't even feel like the original star wars movies. I couldn't stand how kiddy some of the characters were and the over saturation of CGI.

Just a few historical references and some light sabers thrown in all over the ***king place and they slapped the name Star Wars on it.

The best thing Lucas ever did for his bank account was negotiate the merchandise rights to Star Wars, but it was the worst thing for his story telling.

Hey, I got a great idea! Let's end this film with a teddy bear luau! These Ewoks will make great toys!

I liked that scene as a kid.

Ryan,

Watch these

The point they make in this one how the phantom menace DOES NOT have a main character is powerful.

The films are about Anakin Sywalker, who becomes Darth Vader. Like it or not, they are Star Wars.

And the Clone Wars are mentioned in A New Hope. He might not have had it all laid out back then, but he knew there was a backstory and he told it with the prequels.

And he ****ed it up. What he did was bad and he should feel bad. Talk about doing your damnedest to ruin your own creation. I like to pretend they don't exist even though I know deep down they still do. Maybe JJ will pull some time stuff outta his ass and negate the whole thing Days of Future Past style(One can dream)

If you like them more power to you. I can't enjoy them, though.

The only thing that surprises me is anyone would want any of it to be canon. There are three star wars movies, the rest of it counts as much as the storyline to the Tie Fighter flight sim computer game. Kiss made a disco album, if you're a Kiss fan do you HAVE to listen to it? Are the coloring books little kid Picasso did the same as La Guernica?

i've got problems with the prequels, but they are what they are. I love the scenes i love, cringe at the things that make me cringe, and remember that star wars is still my favorite thing when it comes to watching the movies.

Pretty much the same for me.

No no it is not nor was it ever. He was making **** up the entire time.

No one ever thought...I want to make this space opera but damn it technology hasn't advanced enough for me to make convincing trade negotiations and properly convey how scratchy sand is.

There was nothing in the first 3 movies that couldn't have been done in the 70s. Hell the pod race would have been better if it would have been filmed like the speeders in revenge of the jedi

Hell you probably think Jabba was supposed to be nonhuman from the beginning.

The frustrating thing about the prequels to me is that they are so completely pointless. They do nothing to enrich any of the characters or anything about the Star Wars world.

None of that is relevant to whether or not it's Star Wars. It's Star Wars whether you want to accept it or not. And yes, he was making it up the entire time. Guess what, that's what writing is. He was making up the original trilogy too.

Spot on. Nothing was very firm in his mind ever. When you read things like Luke Skywalker originally being half human half robot. etc.

Little details like that are a great way to add color to a story without actually adding anything. When Luke says "you fought in the Clone Wars?" it goes from, "oh, they were in the Army together" to, "oh, they fought in this big huge historic battle that Luke already knows of."

Doesn't mean that this was his plan all along.

Will try to find it but there are lots of stories floating around about how many dumb things he wanted to do in the first few movies that he got talked out of.

The guys that could say no to him were gone by the time of the prequels.
Madman

And Empire is the best movie. Also the one he had the least to do with. He comes back in and brings us Ewoks.

GD Ewoks. A character group designed to sell toys to kids nothing more. Which I guess is fine if this only about money and not about the art of movie making, but what ever.

And this is the sentence that pretty much negates anything you say. It's clear you have a blind hatred for the prequels, and want to pretend the original trilogy is perfect. The podrace was fantastically done.

Didn't say it was his plan all along. But it proves that he already knew there was a backstory there, and then he created it later. Again, that's what writing is. Obviously he wrote them in the order the movies were released.

No it was OK at best. Filming a child and adding CGI special effects does not equal much tension.

While I agree, it really demonstrated that Kenobi was a badass. So when referred to as General Kenobi of the Clone Wars, there was some context. With The Clone Wars series (which I believe is considered canon now), how I view Revenge of the Sith changed slightly.

Jedi was the only movie I ever saw in the theaters (born in 78) and I didn't have any problems with the Ewoks. I even watched the Ewok Adventure every time I visited my grandparents (I had the cool grandpa that had one of them brand new VHS players and he recorded it!!!!!!).

And now I have a 4 year old that has never seen the non-special edition original trilogy as well as the prequals... and he loves them all.

Conclusion: Perhaps ignorance is bliss!

I don't like to pretend they didn't happen, but I do like to wish some things were different. At the least, it gave us some sweet lightsaber fights.
