Honestly, does any of this matter? By the time Jedi was filmed, Jabba the Hut, as a giant gangster slug, was awesome and you know it. Lucas (or someone working with him) changed a lot of things for the better. How much better is Skywalker than Starkiller for Luke's last name?
I think you can give Lawrence Kasdan credit there.

No, of course none of this matters. Nothing discussed on the entertainment board really matters. Ultimately, if you want to enjoy the prequels go for it. I'll never watch them again, but no one should change their mind because of that. And, other than letting someone get by with acknowledging he built his own stormtrooper armor without demanding pictures, everything else here isn't right or wrong, just opinions.

Jabba's a good character in the series, even if changing him later it messed up that deleted scene. I just am learning he always was supposed to be alien and want to acknowledge I was wrong.

quote:
"When I first shot the scene with Jabba the Hutt, I knew I was going to create some kind of stop-motion creature...I had to have somebody--an actor--play the part so Harrison had someone to play against, so we just picked a big guy and put him in a fuzzy vest. I, at that point, felt that he may be a character somewhat like Chewbacca, a big furry character. We shot that. As we were cutting the movie, [we] realized relatively quickly that we didn't have the time or the money to actually shoot that scene [the stop-motion optical]. That ILM was pressed way beyond what it could pull off as it was. So I had to abandon that sequence pretty early on. I had to cut back on special effects shots and that sort of thing because ILM just couldn't handle it." -George Lucas

It doesn't matter. In fact it was a change for the better. But it was a change like so many other things.

When Star Wars was originally released, Jabba was referenced but never shown. When the audience first saw the character it was in Return of the Jedi and he was portrayed by a latex puppet. However, there was a deleted scene in which Jabba was played a by a human in a fur vest.

We're sidetracked and arguing over minutia to prove George Lucas won't just leave well enough alone. And whether or not he lied later to pretend he had some grand plan for the whole thing from the word go.

You guys have seen the film about these controversies, right?

It is just to serve as evident that the prequels were all made up when he decided to make them. There was never a master plan for 3,6, or even 9 movies.

Just so we're all clear, I don't give two ****s about continuity. That is probably why I don't get into comics.

I don't know if I would go that far. Don't get me wrong, I think he bull****ted his way through the prequels, but I also think that he relied too much on himself to get them done in the writing and directing departments. In the original trilogy Lawrence Kasdan (involved in the writing screenplay for Ep's 5 and 6) I think pretty much saved the saga from what we saw of Lucas' capability in conveying a story evidenced by what we had in the prequels. One reasons I am excited for The Force Awakens is because of Kasdan's involvement in the screenplay. That and it's STAR WARS.

I love Star Wars. Was born in 73 so I was the absolute perfect age for Star Wars to be the defining entertainment cultural experience of my young life. Will always love it.

But damn, some of you are f'n dorks. You're arguing about Star Wars and getting personal about it. Star Wars. Jeebus Christ. Get a dog, get some pu**y, get out of your parents house. Really. It's Star Wars. Dorks!

Do you realize how off base you are? I'm a doc with a beautiful wife, a German Shepherd, three kids, two 4wds, and a share of a small ranch. I watch maybe three hours of TV a week. But you know what else? I build stormtrooper armor. No, make that sand trooper. And it rocks. It is a great thing.
I want to see some of this armor you've made.

So is George Lucas involved in any way with episode VII?

When I get a chance. My sandtrooper armor isn't actually complete yet, though I have the components. The other suit is basically ANH. Nothing special, but it is authentic.

Consultant. He had some input into the first draft of the story, probably before JJ came aboard. No idea how much of his contribution will be in the final product though.

The body positioning and contact and movement was all wrong for a **** that was intended to have a stop motion character added.

And a stop motion character wouldn't have been in a costume like that since it would make it more difficult to remove him.

I can beleive his orginal intent was to have an alien that was closer to the comic book but went a different direction due to money.

But it was never intended to be a giant slug

From what I gather, Lucas had drafted an outline of sorts for the sequel trilogy. Though the time he wrote these is.... unclear. However, these outine/drafts were turned over to Disney when Disney acquired Lucasfilm as a subsidary, and as such I believe that Lucas (based on what he said in an interview, so take it with a grain of salt) is pretty much just a consultant on the franchise universe itself.

I didn't see this because I got distracted, but yeah pretty much.

Also according to this article, Abrams and Kasdan worked closely on the script after Michael Ardnt's departure.

Ep 1 -3 were trash and not really Star Wars. Ewoks: The Battle for Endor is the only "extra" that I recognize as truly divine

Not sure if you have seen this at Kotaku, but both X-Wing and TIE Fighter have been released for download at GOG (Good Old Games) each for $10.

I have much to say about what he did to the original movie, but its all been said before. Lucas never had the perspective we had. That movie should have been locked away in the Library of Congress, never to be touched until current movie makers are dead.
