If the wormhole was created by future humans then it would have to mean humans already survived to that point. In which case they would not need to create it to save humans from going extinct.
My thoughts on this one is that basically plan B survived and allowed the species to survive. But something else went awry in the future-- maybe some genetic fault in those eggs or something, that made the future humans feel the need to save the earth population as well.
dammit i already said this!!

Sorry I forgot. You must have been skirting a black hole when you said it so that was, like, 15 years ago for me.

Don't have time to read entire thread.
One question
How the **** did he get ejected out of the black hole and into Saturn orbit?
He would have to been ejected back into the worm hole while shaking what's her tits hand then found shortly there after?

I saw it today at an IMAX theater. I had high hopes for this movie, and was somewhat disappointed. But it is a very fine effort and worth seeing.

My major complaint is the dialogue. I bet I missed 50% of it at least. I'll have to see the movie again at some point to see what I missed.

Agreed in dialogue

I don't here well to begin with. I feel like I need subtitles to know everything going on.

Too much surround sound and high def noise jumbles together for me and I miss key dialogue.

Major kudos to the Nolans for ensuring we saw at least two African-Americans: the principal and then, more important, the astronaut physicist, there to explain the mechanics of the wormhole and the blackhole. Something of a correction to Boyle's Sunshine (which I otherwise really like) and its Asian-centric cast.

Wes Bentley bit the dust first, which is also an improvement. And I would probably have hired a younger actress than Hathaway for the botanist, as an inspiration to any young woman who might come to a showing.

In any event, I was able to hear all dialogue, and follow all along pretty easily as well.

yea that's an interesting take, i'll admit I didn't stop to think about the diversity of the casting. because wormholes. and black holes. and anne hathaway's holes.

Why in the world did Murph light the crops on fire??? Almost everything about that sequence made little sense. It felt like Nolan was just trying to create drama to match what was going on in space so he'd have something to cut to. Murph goes up to her room ... then comes back downstairs ... the family gets into a fight and she's told to leave ... so she lights crops on fire and tells the family to flee ... then she goes back upstairs to wander at the room a bit longer ... and then her brother just takes her crazy ramblings as fact and hugs it out ... moments after being willing to let his family die because he thought Doctor's theories were crazy? If Murph knew the answer was in her room (as she said before heading there) why not just stay in the room til she figures it out?

This one seemed obvious to me. She had given up, and halfway back to the station she decided "no, you know what, there's something there". Her brother had already banished her and Topher from the house, so she lit the crops on fire to draw him out for a little bit. It kept him occupied so she could find out what was happening in her room.

Btw, I loved the movie. Best description I can come up with is "captivating". I was really tired when I sat down and worried I was going to doze off before it ended at 10:45, and this movie had me spellbound with eyes wide open for the entire run.

Did they ever establish that Brand was a capable enough pilot to fly the ship to Edmond's planet, enter the atmosphere and then land safely?

After sitting with my first viewing for a day I've really hit the conclusion that all the science stuff that my mind has been trying to make sense of really misses the core of the movie.

I originally had this thought while watching the scene of MM in the black hole crying out to his daughter. "This entire movie is about not missing out on your kids lives." I got away from that with the final act of the movie that showed MM back in our galaxy. But I think I was initially right.

No matter how big of a reason you think you have. No matter if it is to even save the entire world. It simply isn't worth missing out on your children's lives and being there for them in the end. I'm guessing he might have had similar thoughts with his own children seeing how big of a movie mogul he has become.

The entire movie was a cool way to wrap up a simple but important message.

Then again, perhaps I am just biased since the whole dad leaving thing hits close to home with me.

Actually curious about this one as well. My guess is there's no good answer.

I thought she lit the crops on fire because her brother was being an idiot and putting her nephew's life in jeopardy by staying there. So she lit the crops on fire so her brother wouldn't have anything to stay there for.

I'm not sure that the movie is saying that being with your children is more important than saving the world.

Rather, the movie may be trying to make us understand the price that heroes pay to save us: a good Veteran's Day movie if there ever was one.

One of the things that occurred to me as the movie showed the anguish in both daughter and father at their separation is how many men and women have endured just that separation to keep us free.

I thought the final act when he's back in our Galaxy was crucial to show what you're getting at. The reunion of him and his dying daughter was, to me, the most powerful emotional moment in the film.

So can we expect the Forever War now? Or please almighty Hyperion?

That's what I thought at first but it seemed like they put it out relatively easily, plus Topher clearly expected the brother to get back soon. So I guess it was just a diversion.

I think it started off to save her nephew, but then when she went upstairs it started to click for her.

Ya. They were going to take his wife and son and leave. The wife was down with it because she didn't want her son to die. That's why the guy got out the tire iron. He knew he was probably going to have to threaten her brother when he got back and saw they were talking them.

The robots' design was weird. It doesn't seem like there's much they can do with that kind of design other than talk and follow you around and hope they don't get knocked over because if they do, they're screwed.

Did you miss the part where one saved Anne Hathaway?

I was of the same opinion as you until that happened, and then was like "ohh... yeah I wouldn't want to mess with one of those and I see how they can be marines."
