Did we know that Batfleck has been in rehab?

No we did not. That certainly must have attributed to his not-directing Batman.

Interesting story. Hope he stays sober.

My cynical worldview wonders if this isn't actually about leverage against the wife in legal proceedings.

I'd go into rehab too if I had to be in BvS AND Suicide Squad.

Looks like the script has gone into rehab:

Also, production won't start until early 2018, at the earliest now, per the report.

The longer the delay, the bigger the stakes. If they're counting on Bats for momentum of the franchise, this is bad.

Hilarious how WB can apparently just switch around the order of these things. It's almost as if there's no plan and nothing is really connected...

Maybe it's a flashback movie and Jason Todd bites it? Or maybe she just becomes Oracle instead?

Batgirl is one of the most popular superheroes in the world, but has never gotten her own movie. The project will also feature other characters from the world of Gotham.

On a scale of 1-10 how severe of a stroke is Whedon going to have when he gets notes from Zach Snyder?

Really intrigued, Joss is a great choice for this.

The reboot of the Batgirl comic from a few years back has been really well done, Barbara Gordon is a grad student living in a hip Gotham neighborhood called Burnside and her friends work at tech startups and the like. It could be super appealing if done with the right tone.

Jesus Christ... a Batgirl movie? I absolutely love Batman but cannot stand the Bat Family.

Does no one recall that Batgirl appeared in the absolutely worst Batman movie ever made? Batman and Robin. I will probably skip this, maybe see it when it airs on Ch. 39 in Houston in about 3 years after it is released.

I used to be with you but see the post above yours. The newest incarnation of Batgirl has been well done.

Great director, potential stretch for a solo film, no clue how it fits into the current plan.

Remember that Joss previously couldn't pull off a Wonder Woman movie when given the chance.

Plan?

I'm going to file this along with all the other DC "plans"

Like the Nightwing movie.
Like a Gotham City Sirens movie.
Like Mel Gibson directing Suicide Squad 2.
Like The Rock starring in a Black Adam solo film.
Like a Will Smith Deadshot solo film.
Like a Green Lantern Corp movie.
Like a Lobo film.
Like Guillermo del Toro making a Dark Universe film.
Like George Miller directing Man of Steel 2.

We know Suicide Squad 2 is happening (it actually made a bunch of money!), I would be SHOCKED if 1/4 of the other films listed actually get made.

This is a very misleading statement. Not only was that well before The Avengers (and the clout that came with it), but there were dozens of factors that had nothing to do with Whedon as to why that movie didn't get made.

Several of those were listed in the article as still in the plans.

I love Whedon, but many of those factors are still in play.

The biggest one is not, which was that Whedon couldn't find a decent villain for his WW movie. Batgirl doesn't have that issue.

But, it's still a solo driven movie, which hasn't been Joss's forte. And it's an environment that is going to bring TONS of studio meddling, which is something that by most reports kinda drove Joss out of Marvel's camp. And WB/DC is waaaaaaay worse.

Joss is a pretty particular guy. If I were picking a project for him, I don't know that Batgirl would be my first guess, is all I'm saying.

All I know is this...

After Justice League, it seems as if the Zack Snyder era is finally over, and THESE are the filmmakers Warner Bros. is lining up to take the torch...

- Matt Reeves
- Joss Whedon
- Matthew Vaughn
- Mel Gibson

At the very least, they're trying to right the ship in a VERY big way, and I appreciate the effort.

If this is true, and I hope that it is, is there a chance Batgirl isn't the film he's doing? Perhaps after doing Avengers 1 and 2 they see him doing Justice League 2 maybe, or another important property for them.
