That's disappointing to see that quote.
I recall some talk about possibly changing the name of the first movie because of all this anti-America bullcrap that significant portions of Hollywood has had for years now. Marvel elected to ignore that stupidity, and the movie did pretty well and remains one of my favorites from the MCU. The character's name is literally Captain America, regardless of which character actually carries the shield. The character came about in the WWII time frame, and all of his movies have maintained that persona.
What was Hydra if not a Nazi-like organization full of tyrants? Remember that Cap had "punched Adolf Hitler in the face" 1000 times per the First Avenger. Foiling Red Skull's attack on American targets by crashing the plane in the Arctic, and sacrificing himself in the process, is a real world example of that. Taking down Hydra's heli-carriers was another example of that. Standing up to a UN-like organization by telling them the accords were wrong and refusing to abide by those dictates was yet another example, even if it meant becoming a criminal himself.
I realize I just described Steve Rogers. Sam Wilson is a different character, although he is an American (if we consider someone from Louisiana to be American /I kid). He still carries that shield and he still represents the values that Steve Rogers fought for.
I will still see Brave New World since I've long been a fan of the Captain America character, and I liked the Falcon character when he was brought into the MCU in Winter Soldier. I enjoyed the series Falcon and the Winter Soldier, particularly for the back story they gave us for Sam. But Anthony Mackie is dead-ass wrong with that quote.
