obvious marvel still does not have a clue.

amazing.

Don't know what exactly you're referencing but in my blade and wolverine and Deadpool searching I saw this

Quote:

Variety reported last November that "Blade" had gone through at least five writers by that time. One person familiar with the script changes said the story at one point morphed into a narrative led by women and filled with life lessons. Speculation at the time said that Marvel was still looking to make the film but on a budget of less than $100 million.

Yeah I saw it the same way as a huge shot at Disney never being able to make the movie and Deadpool looking at the camera was more of a, "your move Disney…going to prove us wrong?" joke at disneys expense

Marvel make a Logan-style Blade finale with Snipes per RR's suggestion and it makes $400m without breaking a sweat.

Marvel has really wasted Mahershala Ali.

They should have never killed him off in Luke Cage

That series took a dramatic downward turn after that

I maintain that the first half wasn't very good either and at least something happened once they killed him off. Diamondback sucks, but the first few episodes were all threats and posturing.

Ali is undeniably talented and charming though - I am a fan.

I saw a story that Ali passed on playing Jim Gordon in The Batman and Joel in The Last of Us… for this. A movie that's been in development hell for five years, but always seemingly close enough on the horizon that Ali didn't feel like he could do another franchise. Pretty sad/crazy.

Honestly I can't even see him in either one of those roles with how well they were cast. It sucks for him professionally, but I think we got the better end of that deal.

How much is Ali to blame for Blade being in development hell? I've heard stories he wanted to have a lot of input in the film, but has it been enough to be an obstruction?

Yeah, I'm a fan of his but a bigger fan of Jeffrey Wright who's the perfect Gordon. And Pascal nails Joel.

And you never know the inside story, but Blade has been having major issues since the logo reveal (which is awesome).

blade is just not a character that NEEDS to be added to the mainline MCU.

I get why they want to... adding another black character and one that has a great deal of movie fan affinity.

but they could entirely drop adding him and vampires and no one would miss them long-term.

personally, I think Blade's intro is one of those properties that would work better as a tv series. He is essentially a supernatural private detective that searches for the next group of vampires/monsters and kills them all, then moves on.

You could have a 6 episode series that covers (in the initial 4 episodes) his origins and initial encounters with singular or groups of vampires leading up to the big encounter and fight in the final two episodes.

It is not rocket science. The private detective and vampire noire fanfic is literally serialized writing 101.

and then maybe, a few years later he could be incorporated into a larger storyline that benefits from his actual presence which could not be subbed by almost any other superhero.

and sadly MA is 50 years old. at this point i think it makes more sense to recast 15 years younger to have an actor for a long-term commitment.

So he's basically Sam or Dean in Supernatural?

I almost mentioned that it could work really well as a series, Agatha has been a really fun dive into the more supernatural Marvel world. They could totally develop that outside the main MCU and do some interesting things.

And Ali is 50 but dude Wesley Snipes is 62.

yes. and both are really too old for the character. he needs to be mid 30s.

Don't disagree, was just impressed how good he and Jennifer Garner looked in their roles.

A younger Blade was pretty great in the Midnight Suns video game from a couple years back.

Speaking of - that's your team-up. And honestly you could drop Blade right in and it'd be fine, but maybe a show first, and then team him up with Moon Knight, Werewolf by Night, Scarlet Witch (if she's alive again by then) and maybe Doctor Strange?

Maybe some POV rookie character (like a Black Knight) that gets caught up in this wildass hidden world of vampires, werewolves, Egyptian gods and multiple personalities, witches and possessed sorcerers? I'd be down for that and they've already laid most of the groundwork… but they don't seem interested in doing anything with any of it.

Marvel should make a Zombie movie like the What If cartoon and have Blade be a key player in it. Would let them bring back some of the Gen 1 characters in zombie form and get away with it.

I'd love to see a new good Blade movie, and I think Ali is a fantastic actor. However, I just think he's too old to play that character. I wish they would find a younger actor for that roll.

I also am in agreement that I have no desire to see Blade as part of the MCU. Granted, I'm pretty much done with the MCU and don't care if they keep ****ing it up. I would prefer the Blade franchise be separate so you can focus on the character and not focus on tying it into this world. Similar to what we got with The Batman.

Yeah, Blade seems pretty far removed from the MCU. Ironic it came out before the MCU so it pretty much has that precedent already. Zero reason to shoehorn it into the MCU and give it the current taint that the MCU has.

It's from a Spider-Man: No Way Home poster, and Tom Holland is returning. He'll make an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday that May, then will star in his own, fourth Spider-Man movie two months later. A year after that, in 2027, I'm sure he'll also be in Avengers: Secret Wars. Maybe he hangs it up after that?

What does that even mean? That they aren't fitting in any additional films after the 2025 films we already know about (Captain America, Thunderbolts, Fantastic Four) before May 2026's Avengers film? Because that would have been pretty difficult to pull off to begin with.

Maybe that they aren't starting work on post-Avengers projects so that that gets all their focus? So we might have an empty-ish 2028?
