I know in the multiverse anything can be anything, but is Deadpool really in the MCU? I may have missed the connection somewhere.

Umm, yeah.

There was a wrecked helicarrier in the background of one of his movies.

Basically a branched timeline, bc there are mutants in it. At the end of Deadpool 2, he was time traveling all over the place. There's rumors that Deadpool 3 will feature mobius and miss minutes.

Five minutes before showtime and there's maybe 30 people here. In a 900-seat theater - the most popular theater in the world, in the heart of Hollywood - opening night of a Marvel movie. Never seen anything remotely like this. So depressing.
so is that one of the theaters where directors/actors will sometimes surprise audiences and talk about the film?

i was just thinking how incredibly awkward that would be if they'd planned that and the theater was nearly empty.

So the movie comes out last night.

And I sit down to my computer this morning, and on the stock news home page that comes up when I open the browser is a big headline article from Inverse: "What *********'s Cameo Means for ******* in the MCU"

I'm a gentleman, so where they named the characters, I redacted it.

What in the holy hell is wrong with these people?

I get all my news from TexAgs so I avoid these issues.

Ha, yes, all the time, and I was fully expecting them to, especially since the strike had just ended (they weren't allowed to during the strike). Turns out, they showed up literally across the street during our showing, at the El Capitan theater, which is Disney owned, so it made more sense. I can't stand that place - it has a cramped, creepy carnival vibe - but it sounds like more people were there for whatever reason (it's cheaper?)…

That feels really optimistic for Blade, no? It's currently under major rewrites.

That said, this is promising:

Alright I'm back from my Europe trip, up early with jet lag and have a Saturday to kill, so I might go see this.

I haven't seen Ms Marvel, Secret Invasion, or Loki S2 (yet). Is there any major stuff I need to know beforehand?

Also, what were the specifics of the bet again? Was it $500M+ you were betting on TPE?

Cause... yeah.

Where in Europe? We were in Italy and still battling jet lag 3 days later.

I tried to pay it early but TC refused because of the strike taking away their ability to promote it. So I donated $100 to a charity for cerebal palsy.

Sucks that this is the movie that's going to be saddled with this distinguishment, because so many others in the MCU deserve it far more...

Welcome back.

You definitely don't need to have seen Secret Invasion or Loki S2, but I would highly recommend knocking out Ms. Marvel beforehand. You can technically get by without it, but it would add context, and set up Kamala's character better.

It's absolutely worth seeing. It's nothing amazing, and needs work for sure, but it's a lot of fun, and genuinely funny.

As someone who didn't really care for any character in this movie, I was pretty bored throughout.

I went in with incredibly low expectations admittedly, but it wasn't awful. A couple of the fight scenes were pretty cool. But outside of that, it's pretty forgettable.

Probably won't ever see it again.

Bit of a derail, but I had my second celebrity encounter in London last week.

Went to a little cafe in Soho in the late afternoon, and Bill Nighy was sitting there eating a sandwich. There was a guy in there who kept looking over and I could tell was working up the courage to say something. He finally did, and turns out he was an aspiring actor. Bill asked him to sit with him and they had a full on, 20 minute conversation. I thought that was really cool of him.

Right before I was getting ready to leave, another couple went up and asked for a selfie, so I took that as my in to ask for one. Grabbed a pic, and took the opportunity to tell him how much I loved About Time. He said it was one of his favorites.

Super cool encounter, and a very nice guy.

Man that's awesome, and so good to hear. I love it when celebs who seem cool actually end up being cool in real life. Thats a great sighting.

uhh soo I loved it actually. IMO this is far from the worst MCU movie and does not deserve this bad of a showing.

I think the villain fell flat and had to be the most forgettable villain in the MCU..but this movie wasn't even about her after all was it? It was about ...well I won't spoil.

but the musical scene from CATS had me absolutely roaring in laughter. I love Cats and I think that's one of the best musical scores in the history of broadway and CATS gets way too much hate.. so I just was over the moon in that part. I also loved the musical country..but felt like we moved too abruptly in and out of that. I'd like to see more of that prince guy though please

I laughed out loud quite a bit, the fight scenes were fun, Kamala continues to be a gem.

When you think about Kamala Khan. Tom Holland, Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, Shang Chi as the future of the Marvel Universe, these are all very very loveable characters that I want to keep seeing.

I just realized I'm a complete idiot..this post made me think there would be a deadpool cameo instead of actually reading what you wrote.

Also, practical effects are always better any time it is possible. I am a strong believer in practical effects, especially for makeup/costume

I don't disagree on that sentiment and I even posted after watching Ms. Marvel that I was pleasantly suprised with how much charm the show and lead actress had.

But are those actors and characters going to draw in big audiences? IMO, no, not like the OG Avengers. If Marvel/Disney is ok with continuing this universe with lowered box office expectations then maybe they keep marching along as is.

But that doesn't really sound like something Disney would do. And again, IMO, that sounds like cinematic universe that most audiences are content to watch unfold at home on-demand.

Also my jokes about being a senior citizen when the last Avatar sequel comes out.
