Ha, you're so weird about Twitter.

Disney invites the easy lays - the journalists/press who never ever say anything bad about Marvel movies - to the premieres. Disney then invites all the other journalists/critics to screenings at normal movie theaters, either around the same time, or in the days following. Regardless, when the movie is over, all those people who were at the premiere and at those screenings simply share a couple sentences online about the movie, since fans are waiting to hear the very first impressions. It's really not that flawed or ridiculous. Disney wants as much positive press as possible coming out of the premiere, which makes sense. But they also have to invite all the other critics to see it, so the movie can be reviewed for sites, outlets, newspapers, etc across the country. Some critics inevitably like the movie more than others, but everyone in the industry knows who the easy lays are. Thus, their praise is taken with a grain of salt.

Don't get the hate for Capt Marvel. I think it's pretty entertaining. It's definitely not top tier but it's nowhere near as bad as a lot of people make it out to be.

I think the hate is directed at the actress herself. I do always find it weird that Black Panther, BP2, and Captain Marvel have made the most money outside of the actual Avengers movies themselves, and they are largely trashed by the TexAgs fan base.

It was fine. The criticisms it gets can easily be applied to a lot of the other Marvel films that introduce a new hero. Some folks really don't like Larson and let that impact their enjoyment of the movie... which I think is pretty fun overall.

The majority of the TexAgs fan base was not the target audience.

So black people and women were able to drive the box office of those 3 films above anything that Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and GOTG are capable of?

i wouldn't say i hate captain marvel, but it is absolutely one of my least favorite of the MCU movies (especially of the infinity saga) and just not one that i particularly care to revisit.

ultimately, i think i was just disappointed by it. i had pretty high hopes and expectations for it. we were on a pretty tremendous run of Marvel movies at that point...Civil War, Dr. Strange, GOTG 2, Homecoming, Ragnarok, Black Panther, Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp. so it just felt like Marvel could do no wrong and as a teen from the 90's, i was especially excited for captain marvel. but personally, the movie just felt forced and heavy-handed.

Just because something made more money doesn't make it inherently worthy of praise or acclaim outside of its money making achievement. I'm sure there are predatory mobile phone games that have generated more revenue than, say, Elden Ring. That does not mean Stack Jewels 4 Turbo edition is a better game.

That said, I don't see Black Panther get trashed on here. With the original movie, seems like most people liked the movie but felt the praise it got was contrived - that is separate from viewing the movie on its merits alone as a movie.

BP2 - similarly didn't see it get "trashed" by "TexAgs." Most were lukewarm to disappointed which is on par with most Marvel stuff these days.

Captain Marvel sucks. The character in the MCU was written to be rude and abrasive, and you're surprised the fan base doesn't like her? Not to mention her powers are flirting with Superman territory and she's more or less unbeatable and has insane abilities to travel across space quickly. And yes, many don't care for the actress because of her personal views. Combine the two - and that's why captain marvel is viewed how she is.

They humanized her some in Miss Marvel, I admit she was more like able, but I'm still not hyped for their movie and will likely wait for the D+ release.

As an aside I recently rewatched Black Panther 2 since it's streaming now and liked it a LOT more on a second viewing at home than in the theatre, surprisingly. I think with its length the ability to pause and rewind made it more enjoyable.

This is me nitpicking, but I think this perception is wrong. She isn't written to be rude and abrasive. She's headstrong and confident and never backs down from a fight - which, because it was an origin film about a strong women, couldn't be portrayed as a bad thing. I assume eventually she'll have a Kryptonite or go too far or something.

The real problem is that they filmed her in Endgame before they even filmed Captain Marvel, and the directors didn't really know what to do with her. So in one of the biggest movies of all time, she kinda has no defined personality and is involved only peripherally out of obligation. So she's strong, bland and undefined in most of our memories. And it's been 4 years since Endgame already.

Now Captain Marvel, as a film, is worse than I think I realized at release. They try so hard to avoid the typical origin format that it makes for a pretty disjointed movie, wherein you don't meet the real and current/complete Carol Danvers until the third act. Kinda dropped the ball there IMO.

This character probably needed to appear soon after Endgame to rehab/capitalize on the opportunity, but instead… we're still kinda waiting to see what she's all about. I'm sure Marvel will get it right eventually, but CM1 was a mess and Endgame couldn't possibly commit the screen time to her, so she's just kinda been… lacking. For four years and counting.

After taking it easy for a few years, Marvel is hitting hard as the next phase kicks off. Quantumania and Guardians 3 both look like they'll have HUGE stakes. The new Guardians trailer is awesome.

Watching this trailer made me realize that I really, really, reeeaaallllyy don't want the Guardians to end. Marvel did such a fantastic job of making you feel attached to all of their characters (the Avengers and Guardians both) through Phase 3. So losing the core Avengers after Endgame was bad enough, but I still had the Guardians. Don't know if I can take losing the Guardians now.

Sure as hell don't know if I'll care about the new faces of Marvel nearly as much. There is some potential but so far they don't come close to the original group.

And yeah, the more I think about it the more I question why we can't have full sized, regular groot back by this point in time. Granted I don't know how long it takes for a Groot to reach adulthood, but sure seems like Gunn slow rolled his growth to continue this gimmick of a different aged Groot for every movie.

Narrow-minded people are not going to go see those movies.
I don't have any of them in my top 5, but they were good movies.

So ready to see GOTG3.

Not at all ready for it to end.

There's at least a chance it ends up being more emotional than the end of Endgame. Never mind the fact that if these guys aren't around for the next Avengers movie, it's going to be a massive loss, and further deplete an already struggling character lineup.

I think some will show up and Gunn kinda hinted as such. Bautista is done though. Maybe rocket but the trailers are almost leaning so far into that I am unsure

GOTG3 is gonna have a really dusty theater.

It also shows why Gunn was a great hire for DC, it takes a fantastic storyteller to make a group of misfits the most emotionally compelling thing in the MCU.

Going Saturday night with the whole fam for my birthday, adding to my wife's bizarre legacy of random Marvel Movies seen in the theater, and yes, she does love Paul Rudd.

2010 - Iron Man 2
2015 - Ant Man
2018 - Ant Man and the Wasp
2021 - No Way Home
2023 - Ant Man 3

On TV/streaming she has seen maybe an hour of Guardians of the Galaxy, 30 minutes of Endgame, and that's it.
