To each their own. I thought the performances were great, the action ranged from good to stellar (the casino sequence was fantastic), the design and art direction was amazing, and I was really intrigued by the story, characters, world and technology. Loved seeing this new world we knew almost nothing about.YouBet said:fig96 said:Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I genuinely can't understand that kind of ranking. It's right there among the best Marvel films for me.YouBet said:
BP for Best Picture?! He can't be serious.
I guess I'm going to have to watch it again because I have it in the bottom half if not quarter of Marvel movies.
It was just an average film to me. No where near Winter Soldier which I happened to watch this last weekend as it was on cable. That movie is greatness.
- The action in BP was lackluster.
- Martin Freeman's character, while perfectly cast, was completely wasted and not representative of his character in the comics. I read close to 40 issues of BP last year including the arc this movie pulled from and I'm not sure how you don't tap into Freeman's talents here. He was made for this role.
- I got zero movie-making Joy from it if that makes any sense.
- I was annoyed by the little sister.
- I did enjoy the bald gal. She was great.
- Rhinos were dumb to me.
- If not for it's location as the final fight in IF it's not even necessary to watch in the overall MCU timeline.
My wife and I had a simultaneously "meh" reaction of the film in the parking lot walking to the car.

Also, this isn't a push to make Black Panther the best marvel movie, its a push for consideration for best picture of the year. Perhaps those other Marvel films you guys have ranked higher should have been treated the same way, but like it or not, the didn't make as much money or get near the buzz.
In 2018, where we are right now, Black Panther is easily in my top 10 of the year, and I would guess that is true for a lot of people. And the crafts in the movie are way above any other Marvel film to date (in my opinion). I don't think it has a chance at actually winning, but Disney/Marvel would be wasting an opportunity if they didn't at least campaign for it.

Give me the movie that I described, and that's for SURE in my top marvel movies. Ultimately, they needed Wakanda and T'Challa as BP for Infinity War, which makes sense so it wouldn't have been yet another "big climax battle in NYC" type superhero movie, but I just feel like

Black Panther on the same level as Gladiator?
What?

stealing this idea from reddit, but how hilarious would it be to have Captain Marvel end with her pager going off, and as she pulls it out to check it, she turns into dust?
That would be an epic troll job by marvel if that happened. Everyone is thinking for the past year that she is the key to everything, then *poof* she gone.

Hell yes.
Captain Marvel EW news dropping at 11AM today as well.
Happy to say that when Brie Larsen says she's bored and wants to break the internet, the first 10 things that come to mind have nothing to do with comic book movies.TCTTS said:
Was literally coming to post the same thing, except that EW usually doesn't debut big trailers, mostly images and first-looks. My bet is we're getting our first official look at Captain Marvel in uniform, along with maybe a couple other shots, followed by a trailer either later this week or next week...
there's bound to be a flashback or something to hint at her origin, right? The Incredible Hulk opened with him already having his powers, and pieced together the origin through flashbacks.Quote:
Captain Marvel sidesteps the traditional origin-story template, and when it begins, Carol already has her powers.
