You've gone too far on this one. She was the best character in the entire movie.

BP for Best Picture?! He can't be serious.

I guess I'm going to have to watch it again because I have it in the bottom half if not quarter of Marvel movies.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I genuinely can't understand that kind of ranking. It's right there among the best Marvel films for me.

It was just an average film to me. No where near Winter Soldier which I happened to watch this last weekend as it was on cable. That movie is greatness.

- The action in BP was lackluster.
- Martin Freeman's character, while perfectly cast, was completely wasted and not representative of his character in the comics. I read close to 40 issues of BP last year including the arc this movie pulled from and I'm not sure how you don't tap into Freeman's talents here. He was made for this role.
- I got zero movie-making Joy from it if that makes any sense.
- I was annoyed by the little sister.
- I did enjoy the bald gal. She was great.
- Rhinos were dumb to me.
- If not for it's location as the final fight in IF it's not even necessary to watch in the overall MCU timeline.

My wife and I had a simultaneously "meh" reaction of the film in the parking lot walking to the car.
To each their own. I thought the performances were great, the action ranged from good to stellar (the casino sequence was fantastic), the design and art direction was amazing, and I was really intrigued by the story, characters, world and technology. Loved seeing this new world we knew almost nothing about.

Also, this isn't a push to make Black Panther the best marvel movie, its a push for consideration for best picture of the year. Perhaps those other Marvel films you guys have ranked higher should have been treated the same way, but like it or not, the didn't make as much money or get near the buzz.

In 2018, where we are right now, Black Panther is easily in my top 10 of the year, and I would guess that is true for a lot of people. And the crafts in the movie are way above any other Marvel film to date (in my opinion). I don't think it has a chance at actually winning, but Disney/Marvel would be wasting an opportunity if they didn't at least campaign for it.

What do you mean by "crafts"? Special effects?

I've said this before, but I still think that the movie would have been so much better had the climax of it been the waterfall fight between Killmonger and T'Challa. Maybe make more of the movie about Killmonger courting the favor of some of the other tribes. Make the final fight a brutal hand to hand combat scene. No BP powers for either side. End it with Killmonger throwing T'Challa off the cliff and assuming the BP title. Then the second movie is an epic struggle between the two of them for the throne.

The part following that fight felt super rushed to me. I feel like they could have made an entire second movie out of that, and then I think Killmonger's last line about wanting to die would have had MUCH more weight to it, as you would have gotten more time with him as a character and the conflict between the two philosophies (which they were tying to modern day black people's views on slavery/etc.) more real since Killmonger would have recruited other factions within Wakanda to join him.

Give me the movie that I described, and that's for SURE in my top marvel movies. Ultimately, they needed Wakanda for Infinity War, which makes sense so it wouldn't have been yet another "big climax battle in NYC" type superhero movie, but I just feel like they were forced to end it the way they did.

i have zero issues with marvel pushing black panther for best picture.

i loved black panther, but personally, i liked both infinity war and ragnarok more. however, if marvel thinks black panther is its best shot at winning an oscar (which it probably is), then go for it.

it certainly wouldn't be the first time that i didn't think the best movie of the year actually won the oscar.

what if Killmonger had asked for death, but was spared and imprisoned? after the dusting, he and those that had committed mutiny in support of him in BP are vying for control of Wakanda in the power vacuum left behind. He becomes a thorn in the side of the Avengers, as he wants to maintain the post-dusting world.

Perhaps near the end, after coming face to face, and aligning with the Mad Titan himself, Killmonger now actually sees himself in Thanos, and comes to the realization of how wrong he is, and it is Killmonger that betrays Thanos and hands him defeat. As he puts on the gauntlet, Killmonger says "Y'all tell my cousin, I'm sorry." As he snaps his fingers, he yells "WAKANDA FOREV-" and he is consumed by the sheer power of the stones, and everything is undone.

I like Gladiator way better, but just saying they have a lot of similarities.

The idea of her being the annoying little sister just cemented that.

Brie Larson just tweeted a hint to EW about something big tomorrow. Likely first Cap Marvel teaser.

Was literally coming to post the same thing, except that EW usually doesn't debut big trailers, mostly images and first-looks. My bet is we're getting our first official look at Captain Marvel in uniform, along with maybe a couple other shots, followed by a trailer either later this week or next week...

Worst case scenario: We get a bad EW cover (just based on previous EW covers) with set pics.

Best case scenario: Poster and Trailer

Either way, nice to get some news from the MCU that isn't Gunn/Guardians related.

stealing this idea from reddit, but how hilarious would it be to have Captain Marvel end with her pager going off, and as she pulls it out to check it, she turns into dust?

That would be an epic troll job by marvel if that happened. Everyone is thinking for the past year that she is the key to everything, then *poof* she gone.

Sounds about like Luke tossing the lightsaber over the shoulder.

Pretty positive review for Iron Fist Season 2 (first 6 episodes)

https://decider.com/2018/09/05/marvels-iron-fist-season-2-review/

no spoilers

Marvel's Iron Fist Season 1 was dreadfully dull, and Season 2 is the swift kick in the seat that Netflix's vigilantiverse needed. That's my lean and mean assessment of Iron Fist Season 2, a lean and mean season that more than warrants that hot take. I kid you not: Iron Fist Season 2 features quite possibly the biggest, boldest step up in quality I've ever seen in a Netflix show, and shockingly, it might be the best Marvel series of 2018.

The killer-to-filler ratio is no longer outta whack, and that makes Iron Fist Season 2 the martial arts crime drama longtime fans of the character wanted from the jump. This high praise, which I definitely did not expect to be giving to a series that just last year prioritized boardroom meetings over fight scenes, all boils down to those two words I'm gonna keep returning to: lean and mean.

Unlike every other season of a Netflix/Marvel show, save the Defenders mini-series, Iron Fist Season 2 has chopped off three episodes for a 10-episode season. Not only that, but the episodes themselves are tightly-edited 50-minute (or less!) chunks. This shift away from 13 hour+ episodes, is Iron Fist's greatest strength. This runtime bloat made Jessica Jones and Luke Cage's second seasons tough to get through, as plots stalled for multiple episodes that sometimes expanded up to almost 70 minutes long. Iron Fist doesn't have that problem. In the six episodes made available to the press in advance, the show's central plot twists and turns more times than Jones or Cage's sophomore seasons combined. Iron Fist, named after a character that doesn't inspire the same kind of devotion as Jones or Cage, has taken a page from Danny Rand's new fighting style and decided to just get in and get out.

Wow, didn't realize this was coming so soon (Sept 7th).

Sounds promising though, there were a few highlights in S1 (primarily the drunken master fight) but overall it was definitely lacking.

Happy to say that when Brie Larsen says she's bored and wants to break the internet, the first 10 things that come to mind have nothing to do with comic book movies.

Captain Marvel sidesteps the traditional origin-story template, and when it begins, Carol already has her powers.
there's bound to be a flashback or something to hint at her origin, right? The Incredible Hulk opened with him already having his powers, and pieced together the origin through flashbacks.
