I just got out of it. I thought it was a very good movie, but definitely over hyped. But I understand why though. You have the D.C. Fan boys happy for the first good movie since Nolan on one side, and then the feminists on the other.

Completely agree. That reviewer's insight isn't as novel as he thinks it is. I've argued this for a while when people say they're tired of comic book movies and think they'll run out of ideas. Why? Successful comic titles involve all kinds of genres - scifi, crimefighting, Westerns, old fashioned Medieval quests, capers, etc.

I think the challenge is to get right into those stories without doing too many origin stories. Once we've accepted that there is a world with superheroes and villains, you don't necessarily need to explain them all in detail. No more than a Western needed to explain how everyone ended up in Dodge City.

I've been very slowly reading through Marvel beginning with late '90s Marvel Knights era. It's interesting because I was highly focused on the X-Men in the '80s and not mich else which was also before all of the cross over madness began.

I read the primary Inhumans story line and it was pretty damn boring. Black Bolt (because he doesn't talk and never gets to use his power) is literally the most boring character I've ever read.

If you like the concept of the Inhumans I would just watch Nightbreed. Apparently, there is a directors cut Blu-ray that restores a ton of deleted footage that improves the film. Reading Inhumans reminded me of that film.

With Spider-Man coming out this week, let's start up the Box Office Predictions!

International audiences adore Spider-Man. Amazing Spider-Man 2 made 500 million alone Internationally and IMO, it was worse than SM 3. Add Iron Man and I think it does great overseas.

Only reason I don't have this breaking a billion is due to the heavy competition in July. Looks like we have ourselves a great month as movie fans!

I really hope this one is as good as it looks. I was not much of a Spider-Man fan growing up, but I do remember cartoons or reading comics from time to time. I especially recall one featuring the lizard villain that I believe was the featured villain in The Amazing Spider-Man. Most of the movies have been "meh" for me, especially the last three. I will admit to a soft spot for the first movie although I never could stand the actors playing Peter Parker and the girl. Loved Green Goblin.

I really liked Tom Holland in Civil War, so keeping my fingers crossed.

Repeating myself from the Planet of the Apes thread, but I'm curious how much that film will interfere with this ones box office numbers, and vice versa. Something will have to give in the coming weeks - no weak domestic box office releases like Pirates, Cars 3 or Transformers. That is, unless they cannibalize on each other a bit. Maybe Dunkirk won't make a lot of money.

Never read the comics but anyone who grew up in the '80s probably watched the cartoon of which I was a die hard fan.

Transformers and (mainly) GI Joe comic books were what first hooked me in as a Marvel reader. They did some incredible cross promotion in those days.

This was big deal for me: I didn't read comics and was collecting the new G.I. Joe toys. G.I. Joe issue #11 from Marvel comics in May 1983 helped launch the second wave of action figures/vehicles by introducing them into the comics. Both Marvel and Hasbro teamed up to put out a commercial advertising both the comic and the toys.

This was a first. A commercial for a comic book.

I started reading the GI Joe comic with that issue and stuck with it to the end of the series. It didn't take long for me to branch off into other Marvel comics, but it all started with this particular issue.

Avengers 4 will mark the end of the current MCU as we know it, and Spidey 2 will be the first film in the new era.

Definitely seems as if both RDJ and Chris Evans are done after Avengers 4. But do we really think Marvel is killing off Iron Man AND Captain America over the course of the next two Avengers movies? I could absolutely see one or the other, but both seems a bit much. That said, it would be pretty cool to see them unite again in one, last, sacrificial effort, which could be a fitting way for both to go.

A very daring move for Marvel Studios would be for Thanos to effectively win and reboot the Marvel Universe, but with different versions of the original characters. Or perhaps, though Thanos is defeated, the Marvel Universe has been irrevocably changed.

I'm thinking something like Flashpoint (from DC). Things are similar, but also very different. The few surviving members of the Avengers (I'm looking at you, Spiderman) would be aware of the changes, but forced to adapt to a changed reality.

In addition to giving Marvel an opportunity to recast many of the actors, they could also use the universal fallout to include alternate versions of characters such as the African-American spiderman in the main universe, or the ultimate comics versions of some of these characters to shake them up a bit, like the Eco-Warrior Thor.

But this may be tough for Audiences to follow, and some of the Ultimate versions of these characters are far less popular than the others.

Maybe Cap going into military leadership and Falcon takes over as Cap? (Or Bucky.)

Agreed that it's tough to think Marvel would kill both of them off, Stark is also am aging human being who'd simply be getting older and could retire.

It'll have to happen at some point. Alternate reality or not. Marvel won't allow Captain America, Iron Man or any other Avenger character just to sit on the shelves collecting dust.

Captain America is the obvious choice to be killed off as Winter Soldier and Falcon both become Cap in the comics. Chris Evans has also hinted in the past that he wants to get more involved with directing and do less acting.

Doesnt Bucky take over as Cap in the comics? I could see Tony retiring after beating Thanos, and Cap dying.

Yeah, you're probably right.

So who lives?

- Spider-man, obviously.
- The Guardians of the Galaxy (seeing as the third movie is coming in 2020.)
- Black Panther? (I think the first movie is going to be such a massive success that Marvel will absolutely want a sequel or two)
- Captain Marvel? (I just can't see them killing her two months after introducing her.)

To me, those are the only sure bets. Who else? Doctor Strange? Winter Soldier?

Actor-wise, I just can't see RDJ, Evans, or Hemsworth coming back for any more movies after Avengers 4, but who else likely dies with them?

what if marvel was able to work their magic with Fox and bring X-men/F4 into the fold? you could have a whole new multi movie arc with the remaining MCU characters, Spidey and X-Men culminating with a showdown with Galactus.

I can see Fox not wanting to do that, b/c with all their inconsistencies, the X-Men still raked in the dough, however, maybe they could at least lend the Fantastic 4 back to Marvel? Galactus and Silver Surfer are both tied to F4 and would make worthy adversaries for the next wave of superheroes.

I think they'll have to do it - Iron Man and Captain America (for example) are now popular, even cool characters. I never thought I'd see the day when Captain America would be considered cool.

If franchises like Bond or Batman can replace actors successfully (add sometimes unsuccessfully, but still survive) for years, Marvel can too.
