In that case, he should be standing beside the throne, not in it.
Actually, sitting in it IN his black panther attire is solid symbolism of transition from protector to king.

agreed. standing next to an empty throne shows him morning the loss of his King (father). Him sitting in the throne shows his struggle between soldier and politician.

The best Ill give you is standing in front of the empty throne.

That image does portray any type of transition to me.

I'm. All. In.

This is one of my favorite characters, which means I'm both super excited about this and also really nervous about how it could turn out. I'm loving how this looks so far

Between the cast, the director, and the setting, this could be a phenomenal movie. I hate having high expectations for a movie but holy crap this looks amazing.

Looks good.

So I take it that is actually set prior to Civil War? That guy the Hobbit is interrogating is the same guy who lost an arm to Ultron. Or did Ultron kill him? And did I see BP's dad?

Watch again, doesn't look like he's got much of an arm.

I've said it before, but now having seen a trailer... if this movie is half as good as that trailer makes it out to be, Marvel will spin Black Panther/Wakanda off into its own franchise. And I don't just mean Black Panther 2 & 3, but a whole world of movies and maybe even a show. I haven't heard a single thing officially or not in that regard, it's just that something about this feels like it has the potential to be really special.

Just like with Wonder Woman being the first, true, female-led superhero movie in the modern era, and seeing massive success, this could be an even bigger hit as the first, true, African American-led superhero movie (again, in the post-X-men era). This world not only seems insanely rich with story/history, but I could see audiences - the black community, especially - really, truly connecting with it. But it all rests on Ryan Coogler's shoulders, and I have every confidence that he's going to deliver.

Also, "It's hard for a good man to be king" is a phenomenal tagline/theme. Any trailer that hones in on the thematic heart/argument of the movie, rather than the actual plot, tells me the movie itself is super confident not only in the story it has to tell, but the arc of its main character. - i.e. they know what the hell they're doing, have a clear aim, and are executing it with confidence from day one in the marketing.

Will Forest Whitaker be the first person to have significant roles in both the MCU and Star Wars?

I am not so sure I'd call his role in R1 significant.

I guess I mean characters that are a part of the plot and you know their name. Not just, oh yeah that guy flew and X wing and was a hydra agent for 30 seconds.

Knew I was forgetting some obvious ones from prequels...

Sam Jackson and Natalie Portman. Also Madds Mikkelson from Dr Stange and R1. Obviously I googled.

It's funny you mention spinning off Wakanda into its own movie franchise because that's what they are doing in the comics right now. They currently have the main Black Panther story written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and World of Wakanda which tells different stories that aren't centered on T'Challa. Coates oversees the stories and they relate together like a shared universe, but can be read separately.

And there's another new comic Black Panther and the Crew which is only going to be 6 issues long. The last year has been great for Black Panther fans!
