I agree. I think guardians has more appeal outside of comic book fans.
We have had 5 spidey movies and a crossover.

We have had only 1 guardians movie.

Haven't seen either of their big movies (Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind), but I am excited to check them out! I did the same with Jon Watts' Cop Car and Waititi's What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople and loved all three of those movies.

I'm a fan of both those movies and also Fleck's baseball movie Sugar but it def seems like a bit of a stretch for them. Those are all super low budget movies.

feige is not worried about Brolin playing Thanos and Cable

http://screenrant.com/kevin-feige-josh-brolin-thanos-cable/

Quote:

We don't have anything written into our contracts about other roles that people can do. Indiana Jones and Han Solo are the same person [and] it hasn't been a problem. And I think Thanos and Cable are two very different characters.
I do find it interesting that they don't have anything in the contract about other superhero franchises though. I mean, even James Bond actors are forbidden from wearing tuxes in non-james bond movies.

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Why-Pierce-Brosnan-Wears-Ugliest-Suit-Ever-Thomas-Crown-Affair-68301.html

Quote:

When Pierce Brosnan signed up to play James Bond ahead of 1995's Goldeneye, the Irish actor gave away his rights to "wear a tuxedo in any other film". Unfortunately for The Thomas Crown Affair, this meant that there was a slight problem. Partway through John McTiernan's heist drama, Pierce Brosnan's Thomas Crown attends a rather fancy soiree that is a "black and white ball." Because of his contract with James Bond, Pierce Brosnan wasn't able to wear a fancy bow-tie and suit that would have really brought out his eyes and shown the world just how devilishly handsome he was.

Looks like a trailer for Cloak & Dagger dropped today. Didn't see it on here. I have no idea what Freeform is, is that what used to be ABC Family? Looks to me like it will be about as related to the MCU as Legion was to the X-men films. Anyway, could be interesting. Nice to see Roxxon Corp. I've watched a lot worse on CW's DC shows lately, so it's not like I'll turn my nose up at this without at least giving it a shot.

Correct on Freeform/ABC Family.

They went a bit young on the characters (well, it is probably closer to the ones in the comic), but we are used to seeing "older" actors play characters these age ranges.

They hit some good beats with that trailer. I just question how they will make the cloak effects work without just being outright ridiculous.

Cloak & Dagger (at least when I read it when it started in the early 80's) was a very dark story about drug use and teen runaways.

The two of them were teen runaway who were kidnapped and experimented upon by being made drug users of a synthetic heroin. The drugs (IIRC) brought out strong mutant powers in them: his body/cloak is a doorway to a dark dimension and she produces a blinding light.

Cloak also has an insatiable hunger for the life force of people, but Dagger's light can satiate him. They can also teleport via his cloak portal.

Together, they start a war on drug traffickers. Cloak absorbs pushers into his dark dimension (which messes with them physically and mentally) and Dagger drags them back out before Cloak kills them. He's very dark and angry and she keeps him from losing his humanity.

This could be very dark and gritty (maybe even Netflix worthy), but I seriously doubt it will get anywhere CLOSE to that potential being on Freeform.

Will be interesting to see if it's the same universe, I'd assume it would be as Marvel hasn't deviated from that yet.

Freeform is a lot like the CW, but maybe a little more family oriented (in a teen way, not preteens or kids).

I dont hold out any hope that it'll be on the level of Daredevil, or that they'll tie it into the Netflix universe in any meaningful way. Simply because of the network its on I'm guessing its going to be very teen drama oriented. But that doesnt mean it wont be decent, and I could be wrong all around.

It'll be more likely to have some loose ties to agents of shield than anything on Netflix, imo... being an ABC affiliate.

And I currently have no intention of watching

It doesn't have to neccessarily work it in, but just have the sign on the heroin packets from Iron Fist

While we are on the subject, I feel like the different mediums are so different that they exist separate from one another. Netflix shows feel like they don't belong with the movies, shield acts like it's part of the movie universe but has zero ties to Netflix, and the movies don't give two Fs about any of it. I know they aren't necessarily trying to have close connections, but there should be some overlap (like swimmer is talking about). For example, hydra and the hand seem like perfect partner organizations. When agents has a jet that can hop them from LA to Europe and back home, is it that difficult to send someone to check out a bullet proof dude in Harlem?

Random, pointless rant over

I just run with the idea that they are not connected whatsoever, and just enjoy them as a fanboy.

The lameness of the Netflix shows referring to the Hulk and Captain America without using their names ("the green guy"), how the movies to do address the Inhumans, etc.

I love the movie MCU, and I love everything else. It is just better to assume they are not actually related since Fiege wants it that way.

There are a lot of links between the Netflix shows and the TV and movies. They're part of the same universe. I guess I don't understand the issue.
SeattleAgJr
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The Netflix shows go out of their way to not actually reference specific things - the alien invasion, the NAMES of the Avengers, etc. Yes, the shows are set in NY after the first Avengers movie, but they really are not "connected".

As for AoS - yet there have been crossovers, but only one way.
You think something as significant as a hundred + super powered Inhumans coming into "existence" would not warrant the attention of the Avengers to deal with this issue? It is not like all Inhumans are good guys. Add to that there is no reason that they are unaware of Phil Coulson still being alive, in spite of Nick Fury showing up in one episode.

I appreciate them for what they are, but I put no value into them being "connected" as they really are not.

You're reading too much into the way they refer to the Avengers. They just refer to them by colloquial names instead of their official superhero names, and the writers do it to keep the focus on the stars of the show instead of the stars of the movies.

They are not trying to keep them separate. They intentionally draw them together. Kreel fought Matt's dad. Matt and Daisy lived in the same orphanage. Ben wrote all of the Avenger articles. Hammer made tech used in Luke Cage. On and on.

I do find it more distracting than not when the Netflix shows find unnatural ways to refer to the Avengers. They're probably the biggest thing the world has ever seen, so saying "the guy with the hammer" is a bit strange, especially when in Thor 2, people just say "look, it's Thor."

It's not overkill, but I hope they won't be quite as reluctant to reference them going forward. We'll be on our sixth series, with four crossover characters fighting an army of undead ninjas. Saying "Captain America" is hardly the most absurd thing that could happen.

So, going back to the Thor Trailer, Here is a few things I picked out.

First, going back to the Dr Strange Post credit Scene, we know Thor is in NYC looking for Loki.

If you look frame by frame of Mjolnir exploding, you see that someone is with Thor. Some people on reddit jumped to the conclusion that it is Loki, but I think it is Dr Strange. 1 frame after the explosion, this person is sent flying back from the blast (even though they are a couple of feet further back from Thor). Thor does not go flying back for several frames. Thor first braces himself, slides about a foot, and then is flung. The other person is obviously human, not Asgardian.

Second, the suit that Hela (cate blanchet) is wearing reminds me of the symbiote from Spider Man. I don't know if Marvel is going there, or if it's just a design choice. Just wanted to throw that out there just in case so i can point back to this post a few years from now

Also, we see Loki leading what appears to be troops into battle, and later he is in the "owner's suite" at the coliseum.

Here is my guess on how the story might play out:

We know from the end of Thor 2 that Loki is impersonating Odin. I think that Loki (as Odin) sends Thor on a fools errand to Earth to look for Loki. Hela attacks Asgard**, which is why we see Loki fighting. After Asgard is defeated, Loki knows that he needs Thor's help to defeat her and goes looking for him. He finds Thor at the Coliseum, but Jeff Goldblum won't turn Thor over to Loki until he can prove himself in battle against his best warrior (Hulk).

**I don't know if Hela attacks Thor or Asgard first. I could see her taking out Thor first, as he's Asgard's best warrior. Or perhaps she goes to Asgard first and then finds out Thor is on Earth.

EDIT: I was mistaken on why Thor is in NYC. He is looking for Odin, not Loki. Perhaps Asgard has already fallen, and Thor/Loki go looking for Odin b/c they know that he can help (maybe he defeated Hela once upon a time). Hela follows them to NYC to finish what she started in Asgard. I still think that may be Dr Strange in the clip, since he goes flying like a ragdoll (of course, technically Loki is adopted, so maybe he's not as strong as Thor). Another reason I think it may be Strange, is b/c Thor ends up by himself when he is captured and taken to the coliseum.

This.

At least AoS references Captain America, Tony Stark and others by name.

Thor: Ragnarok speculation:

It could definitely be Doctor Strange, but we also know from the Strange post-credits that he's brought Loki back to earth and is looking for Odin. Also, there is concept art showing Hela appear before Thor and Lok, though they could be irrelevant.

Another thing I wonder... will Thor begin the movie by looking for Infinity Stones, or who is trying to collect them? And is Hela inside the Soul stone, and accidentally released? From what I've heard, she's been improsoned for many years, and the Soul stone can trap souls within it. Would make sense. But what's it doing in New York?

My theory is that Thor goes looking for answers, maybe meets Surtur (that trailer opening could be the very first scene of the movie), goes to Asgard for answers (perhaps Odin knows where the stone is), realizes that Odin is a pretender, goes to New York with Loki to find Odin, and inadvertently frees (or perhaps Loki intentionally frees) Hela, who destroys Mjolnir and heads to Asgard right away.

In other MCU news, there's a rumor that they're gearing up for a Luke Cage season 2. I hope they don't, or if they do, that they go with a different showrunner than before.

I'm of the opinion that 13 episodes is too much, the MCU is at its best when it's doing crossovers, and that Iron Fist in particular doesn't deserve a season 2. They'd get the most mileage out of Luke Cage and Iron Fist by combining them, trimming the fat, and hiring a more competent showrunner than either series had.

from reddit:

nothing special, but you can see the runtime and file size on it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelstudios/comments/66gkx4/im_currently_holding_a_copy_of_guardians_of_the/

according to the guy on reddit, they get sent these encrypted drives with the movie on them. The studio will then send the encryption key out to the theaters at a later date so they don't watch it early.

EDIT: Is the blurred out part the timestamps on the 5 post credit scenes?
