The level of excitement I have for the remaining movies completely eclipses anything that's come before in this universe. This all sounds so incredibly amazing...

There was an article linked on that site about RDJ turning down the role of Iron Man for Cap 3. What? I assume that's wrong because it's the only article that claims that.

Having not seen the article, I think they meant he turned down doing a solo Iron Man 4 for Cap 3.

Ah, that would make sense. It was a pretty confusingly-worded headline

Here is the best part about the MCU: Characters grow. They change. They move up or move on.

That takes some guts, really. It's easier to take the comic book approach and always bring things back around to being what they were when things started.

Question for you all: how do you feel about Rhodes / War Machine?

I think Don Cheadle is great, and he's a great sidekick to Tony. I think he has a good amount of involvement - helpful but not too much.

That said, someone told me that they didn't want him having a bigger role. They pointed out that if he's War Machine, then anyone can put on a suit and be a super hero. Tony Stark makes Iron Man - not just anyone can fill that role.

As far as I know (and I could be wrong), War Machine only became a thing when Tony was unable to be Iron Man (alcohol?). Maybe if RDJ retires, Cheadle can stick around. But having War Machine join the Avengers would steal Tony's thunder, perhaps.

I loved War Machine in the comics. I would hope they'll bring him back around at some point in future story arcs.

I think WM's best aspect is as the military's official superhero. Moreso even than Cap. I think going forward that would be a good angle.

Ah, maybe Civil War then. Interesting.

In Phase 2, Stark "retired" as Iron Man at the end of IM3 and Cap stopped blindly following Shield orders since it was attacked by Hydra in CA2, but I don't remember what the big character shift for Thor in Thor 2?

Loki got out of prison and replaced Odin. Is that it?

Thor has given up his quest to be king.

Even so, I don't mean that every movie has to be a tidal wave of change. I'm just saying that the EASY thing to do creatively is to end each movie with the bad guy being stopped and the hero triumphant, and then have the next movie be yet another adventure. The old Superman movies were loke that, for example.

What Marvel does is different because character relationships change, they evolve, they learn new tricks and grow out of old habits. Stark had PTSD after his experience in New York. Cap's opinion of the leadership and the use of force have changed. These aren't things that we would have seen in the old days.

Concerning the previous discussion about who Marvel will cast as Spiderman (and what his age/race will be), Marvel is looking at 16 year old Mateus Ward

I find it ironic that he is wearing a batman shirt in that picture.

Good that they are casting young. Shows great foresight. By starting him off as a 14 year old kid (the rumor) you get a lot of different angles. Imagine being a kid with powers coming of age in a post-Avengers world...

That'll be pretty crazy/interesting to see a kid trying to work with Tony Stark, Thor and Cap.

This was speculated in the past, but it looks like it is official now. Really happy with the Russos sticking around!

An actual teenager portraying a teenage superhero?

Of course, he's going to be 17-18 when he appears in his Civil War and 18-19 when his solo movie comes out. Kids grow up so fast.

Slightly related as it is a marvel property (and I can't remember the thread we have going for it), but Jennifer Lawrence says that Apocalypse will definitely be her final X-Men film.

spider-man has not actually been a teenager for a very long time.

already done with college. working in the real world.

I wish everyone would drop the "high school" Peter b.s.

This just means we get a THIRD origin story in the last 15 years.

"Young" doesn't have to equal "origin." I don't know how many times this has to be said: A "fully formed" Spider-Man will FIRST appear in Captain America: Civil War. And the follow up Spider-Man stand-alone movie will be taking place AFTER that movie. Sure, there might be a quick flashback or two in the stand-alone movie, or maybe they show his origin again over the opening credits or something, but there will not be - in any way, shape or form - another "origin movie" for Spider-Man. This has been made clear over and over and over again.

He's taken 50 something years to get into his 30s, so I'd say the whole age requirement is pretty flexible.

Rumors are that not only has Marvel already secretly cast Captain Marvel, but that she'll actually appear in Age of Ultron...

http://www.latino-review.com/news/has-marvel-found-their-captain-marvel

I'm not buying it. No way they could keep that a secret in this day and age. But if so, I'm putting money on either Emily Blunt or Rosamund Pike, and I base that on absolutely nothing.
TCTTS

They're currently screen testing for Spider-Man out of a producer's house, so no one on the lot even has a chance to suspect an actor, and I'm betting if Captain Marvel is already cast, they went the same route. Still, yeah, it would be a huge challenge to pull off having already cast either of those names you mentioned. Both of which I'm all for (leaning slightly toward Blunt).

Blunt was originally signed on to play Black Widow, so that would make sense.

didn't they take everyone by surprise when Jeremy Renner showed up as Hawkeye in Thor?

I knew in advance, so there were at least rumors. Though I may not have known who was playing him.

From what I remember, Renner's casting was not a secret, but his appearance in Thor was a bit of a surprise because it was shot after filming had wrapped and was kept a secret.
