I've seen references to Goddard saving the ending of World War Z before. Anyone know the details of that or have a handy link to a synopsis? I'm really curious what apocalypse was avoided (pun intended).

Sorry again for the random question. I've actually been wondering for a while, but didn't think it was worth its own thread. With this news it seems like as good a place as any to ask.

From what I remember, the entire final act set in Wales at the WHO was either written or rewritten by Goddard.

Yep. But it was both Goddard AND Damon Lindelof. They brought in Lindelof first to fix it, and then he, in turn, brought on Goddard to help.

Is this the first time they have stated (rumored?) that MCU characters will appear in the Spidey solo flicks? I know that obviously they would exist in the same universe now, I just dont remember having heard that Marvel Studios characters would guest star in Spider-man movies as well.

Yeah, it was mentioned when news first broke. They've said any current MCU character could appear in the solo Spidey film(s). That said, everyone assumed it'd be somewhat secondary characters, or someone like Nick Fury or Bruce Banner. No one ever thought it'd actually be Stark / Iron Man.

Cool, thanks. I agree that is pretty surprising that it would Iron Man right out of the gate.

- 05.06.16 - Spidey will first be introduced in Captain America: Civil War in some capacity. Sounds like it's way more than a cameo, but not a super-prominent role.

- 11.04.16 - Spidey will then be involved - in some form or fashion - with the Doctor Strange movie. However, probably much less so than in Civil War.

- 07.28.17 - Spidey will then get his first solo movie, in which he is rumored to be going up against Iron Man as an "audition" of sorts for the Avengers. My guess is Spidey somewhat forces himself into MCU situations in the previous two movies, and that all culminates in here in his first solo movie.

- 05.08.18 - Spidey will then almost assuredly be part of the main cast in Avengers: Infinity War - Part I, especially because this is the movie heavily rumored to involve none of the original Avengers (who will then reunite for Infinity War - Part II).

Just typing all that gets me so incredibly fired up for these movies. The MCU is already obviously as popular as popular can get, but weaving this Spider-man story into them is going to take it to a whole other level.

Good question, actually. Seems almost everyone is referring to it happening in the solo movie, but that's not 100% confirmed yet.

You said Sony is pretty adamant about going young with Spider-man, right?

In Ultimate Spider-man, which focuses on Peter as a teenager, he has a kind of continuous subplot where Nick Fury and SHIELD are trying to reign him in because they think he will get himself or someone else killed because he is a kid who has no idea what he's doing.

Sounds like they could play off that angle there.

Yeah, I actually really like the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoons.

My wife rolls her eyes every time I start another episode on Netflix.

James Gunn just said on Twitter that Marvel will not be at Comic Con this year. Some are speculating because of Star Wars which would make a lot of sense.

2. No need this year. Avengers will already be out, Ant Man will more/less be out.
Nothing to push this year.

3. Likely to take part in D-23, a Disney event, so really no need.

4. Marvel WILL be at ComicCon in other ways, even if they do not have keynote panels.

Also rumored that they're trying to go for a young kid (15-18 year old range) for the new Spider-Man role

Ahh come on... Live comedy is really difficult. When it comes to comic timing and presence, you either have it, or you don't. I've seen plenty of people bomb on SNL with pretty good material. But I thought he was a natural. Would like to see him try out some more comedic roles.
