Good to know considering people still worry that Disney and marvel are micromanaging the films

Chiwetel Ejiofor is cast as Baron Mordo in Doctor Strange. Liked him in pretty much everything I have seen him in.

The Dr. Strange article linked me to this one. Shane is going to play the Punisher in Daredevil. Does the Punisher frequently rub his head in frustration?

I dig both these castings. Shane was pretty good in Fury, I thought.

I hate my future kids because they won't have to wait for all of these damn gaps to finish before they can see all the films. It's going to be like me with Star Wars. Just watching A New Hope all the way to Return of the Jedi for the first time in one sitting. Except it's going to be Iron Man to Infinity War 2 and I imagine it'll be a weekend.

The wait is what makes it all worth it. Feels bigger that way. Walking out of the theater, knowing it'll be a year or two before you see some of these characters again just adds an extra special element I can't quite describe. I wouldn't trade anything for the build and speculation in between.

I've been rewatching them all lately. I think my preferred order is this:

Cap 1
IM
Hulk
IM2
Thor
Avengers
Thor 2
Cap 2
IM3
Guardians
AoU

Makes sense for Cap to be there already, since as of IM1 Tony is the only real candidate for the Avengers initiative. Also explains why Shield didn't do anything in IM3, and has Tony PTSDing right before AoU.

But we'll see how it goes. Avengers tonight.

This. Same thing that makes series like Breaking Bad and GoT so great.

Suppose that works too

If he can lose the southern accent I think he'll be great.

A few days old, but ought to be posted here: a Forbes article on the status of a solo Hulk film (Marvel does in fact own the production rights, but not the distribution rights):

Actually, a ton of people are saying this is premature. She's definitely in talks, but hasn't officially signed yet. VF sourced a non-official site, apparently.

For Marvel's side, it might be sufficient even if it doesn't go through, from the political angle. They have shown they are willing to wotk with anyone and everyone.

Except Edgar Wright. Or Patty Jenkins. Or Joaquin Phoenix.

Was Marvel unwilling to work with Edgar Wright? Seemed to me like he was unwilling to work with them. I understand what you are saying, but I don't agree that wanting to maintain control of certain aspects of the creative process means Marvel is unwilling to work with those directors. Ultimately Marvel is hiring them to execute Marvel's vision for Marvel's properties. Now some of these directors are well regarded because of their unique style and that can bring a lot to a film. But I understand Marvel being unwilling to move from their position just as much as I understand those directors not appreciating it. Ultimately Marvel is the boss. I dont think either side is wrong on this, which is why its just as well that they part ways.

I'm 9/11ths through a full MCU film run. It's interesting to revisit some of the oldies that I haven't seen in several years, like Thor 1 and Iron Man 1. Or the Incredible Hulk, which I had never seen before.

But even better than that is Marvel news. Glad for a thread bump.

Also, quite ready for Ant-Man.

Just stumbled across this:

Tom Holland cast as Spider-Man

That seems like a weird pick for Director. Talk about an unknown quantity.

I saw The Impossible, and I liked it, but I don't remember Holland's performance specifically. Haven't seen anything else with him in it.

No idea who he is, but I can see it. Looks young but not nearly as young as Asa Butterfield.

He's literally no one. Two director credits, one on "Clown" which sounds terrible, one on "Cop Car" which got good reviews at Sundance and actually sounds intriguing.

I cannot believe that Marvel is handing over the Spiderman franchise to a man who has a resume that sparse (and not particularly good).

I have always held off judgement on the directors because I have faith in Marvel, but this is just such a bad sign. Really? His only completed film is a straight-to-Redbox horror film starring Eli Roth (who's name means nothing anymore) as a monster clown who eats kids. Now he's directing a massive budget Spiderman movie?

We'll see, but this just doesn't sound like a good idea.
Sex Panther

I'm guessing that Kevin Feige is actually directing this

The stand-alone Spiderman film is not Marvel's; it's Sony's. I would suspect Marvel didn't have much of a say in the director selection, but who knows, maybe Sony did involve him heavily there, too.

Marvel gets to use Spiderman in its team-up movies, and in return Sony gets to share its movies in their cinematic universe (somehow), and presumably some consulting from Marvel (Feige).
