So, never read it but familiar with it. Couldn't this be House of M?

I finished watching Iron Man today and Obadiah is such a great villain. Surprise, surprise Jeff Bridges is a good actor. I'd like to do a tournament of all of the MCU villains.

Vulture is really interesting. Not in a would win in a fight way, but as a character.

Hammer and Parrot guy... one of the best and maybe the worst villians in the MCU side-by-side.

I eye-rolled when the character was announced and then quickly perked my ears when Michael Keaton was going to play the roll. He's awesome.

Conversely, he's not the best Batman but that's a different thread.

Not the best, but surprisingly good given his prior movies.

Yes.
Bruce Almighty

Not the best Batman because the best is a cartoon.

Thanos would roll - not really close.

Some of the others would make good matchups though.

Loki, Justin Hammer, Klaw and Killmonger all come to mind as fun, interesting villains.
You're probably right about Thanos across a large group of people voting. Personally, I don't think he's that interesting. He's powerful, but he's really just a crazy mf'er. I think Loki is way more interesting.

Or put another way, I don't know how much I would enjoy watching a limited series of Thanos's adventures in time.

The one recurring criticism I've noted regarding the MCU is its lack of memorable villains. Now I don't necessarily agree with that, as I'd rank Thanos as one of the best I've ever seen as well as Loki, Red Skull, Obadiah Stane, and maybe Killmonger.

Thanos was well-realized over the series of films from The Avengers in 2012 up to his back-to-back opus in IW and Endgame. Just enough was mentioned or shown to keep audiences interested, notably with an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy. Crazy? Perhaps, but I rather saw him as motivated to solve what he saw as a problem. His solution certainly is crazy.

Loki is an interesting one. He doesn't come across as a powerful figure, yet he is quite capable of inflicting loads of damage. He is a snake in the weeds, your best buddy in one moment and sticking a knife in your back the next.

The thing that is fascinating is that as audience you bounce back and forth between rooting for him, and against him. Really interesting character and very well played by Tom Hiddleston.

Yeah my wife noticed that too. I think they were setting up Cap plowing Sharon to it... but it works out this way too.

Winter Soldier has to be my favorite CBM other than the Dark Knight Trilogy. I love that it doesn't follow the Marvel formula and instead gives you badass action and a great plot. The Fury chase, the Bucky/Cap knife fight, all the badass spy stuff. It's just a really great action flick.

I think I saw that Georges St Pierre (Batroc) is supposed to be in Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

When I watched this for the first time I half expected Black Widow to be in with Hydra. Would have been a great twist.

Winter Soldier is my personal favorite, for all the reasons you said, the elevator fight, the good soundtrack and just the score in general. Good use of humor, and it was the first MCU the Russo brothers directed, straight off of directing some epiodes of one of my personal favorites Community.

Even though I think Endgame is "better," Winter Soldier is still my favorite.

Same, the achievement that went into Endgame is pretty amazing but Winter Soldier is still my favorite single film.

It was the first real genre film that Marvel did, and the Russos gave us an incredible action/espionage film with a really relevant theme and the perfect scenario to challenge Steve's belief system (not to mention Bucky). And it's insanely rewatchable.

It's so easy to get lost in recency bias regarding these movies, but heck yeah, The Winter Soldier is right at the top of the list. I rank the combined Infinity War + Endgame as the best of the MCU, but as a single film, The Winter Soldier is the most relatable, most familiar, and best of all of them. It calls back to a time in the '70s when movies like Three Days of the Condor, The Day of the Jackal, or The Parallax View were being made, which gave it familiarity to modern audiences.

The Russos had an attention to detail that felt just right for a character like Steve Rogers, born in 191? and serving in WWII ... and then disappears for 70 years. When he first walks into his apartment, there is a shot on him through a bookshelf, upon which we see a WWII book featuring a Nazi Stuka dive bomber (I happen to own that book, which always amused me); I'd think a guy who disappeared during that war would have spent a lot of time reading on how it ended. Then there is the list of things to watch or listen to. The fact that he had Star Wars on that list reminded me of a story I'd read of Vietnam POWs finally coming home and being told they had to go see this movie (no idea if that is true or not).

I loved the Sam Wilson character. Despite just having met at the beginning of the film, he and Steve seemed to be old friends right away. The fact that the Russos nailed this friendship so well right off the bat served them very well when Cap is standing alone, facing Thanos and his army, when he hears "On your left ..." and Falcon comes flying through that portal.

Damn it, I am going to have to re-watch this one today.

And that the Russo brothers jumped from one minute directing episodes of "Community" to making the best Marvel film is just mind-blowing.....

Captain America: The Winter Soldier was my favorite, until Thor: Ragnarok. They made Thor awesome, that entire movie is awesome from Thor as Surtur's prisoner, Thor discovering Loki as Odin, going to see Odin on Earth. Hela is great, Sakaar we get Thor/Hulk gladiators, Valkyrie, Korg, The Grandmaster, the Thor/Hulk dialogue is all great as well. It's also the funniest film in the MCU, the thud Banner makes as he falls onto the bridge still gets me to lose it to this day. You also get the most growth of Thor as a character in all the films. Great fight with Thor losing an eye to realize he doesn't need mjolnir to be the god of thunder. Bringing it full circle when Thor himself brings about Ragnarok to save his people.

Thor: Ragnarok is a true comic book movie while The Winter Soldier is more of an espionage/thriller. Taiki Waititi knocked it out of the park and then some. The first two Thor movies are arguably the two worst films in the MCU, they are the least rewatchable. I can't remember the last time I saw either Thor or The Dark World. He made Thor an awesome character and franchise. Can't wait for Love and Thunder.

I've rewatched Thor 1 many times. It's a decent origin story.

I've had no desire to watch Captain Marvel again. The only reason I would is because it did seem to do a little to set up the future of the Marvel universe. So to that effect, it would be important in the grand scheme. But as a standalone movie, it was really not needed to establish the character and was pretty blah.

The one thing I wished we got more of was the way they dealt with the personal aspects of war. Can't sleep in your bed, the veteran's group, unpacking your PTSD... was so poignant and powerful to have a blockbuster spend the time to describe something lots of people can relate to.

We got a scene in Endgame with Steve taking up the torch but it just felt like they could have done a little more with it. Sam puts on the wings and he never talks about his feelings ever again. He's just like, hell yeah let's do more war!!

That's a good point. I wonder if it's something they could explore in Falcon and Winter Soldier. A series would definitely allow for a broader canvas for themes like that than a movie

I mean, we some some massive PTSD from Tony Stark over multiple movies until his death. And Wanda being practically depressed in Civil War. But they could definitely add some more. It really gave weight to what these people went through, even as powerful as they were.

I thought about that too but again, he just kinda solved his PTSD by superheroing harder. But you always appreciate seeing a superhero struggle in ways that's not just "this bad guy is too strong"

He also helped his PTSD by building a crap-ton of seemingly job-specific suits of armor....

Absolutely. From a narrative point of view, could definitely be a good way to build up their bond as the series goes on.

So hard to pick a favorite MCU movie. I could interchange all of:

Guardians 1 & 2
Thor Ragnarok
Avengers Infinity War
Avengers End Game
The Winter Soldier

Those would all be in my top 5. how I order them just depends on the day. However, if I order them by rewatchability, I would probably put Ragnarok at the top. I could watch that movie over and over. I could list everything that makes it so great, but I'll let this guy do it:
