Best outro IMO is the last 30 seconds of the third movement of Rachmaninov's 3rd Piano Concerto. Yes, I'm serious. It's glorious.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I agree with most I did read. If not already mentioned, I would like to add
Joe Walsh-Life's Been Good and Dexy's Midnight Riders - Come On Eileen.

I don't think anyone's mentioned Hells Bells yet. That there is a damn good intro.

AC/DC--Soul Stripper
Lynryd Skynyrd--Call me the Breeze
The Cult--Firewoman

Bad intros:
Echo the Stones "can't always get what you want" (i generally turn the radio when I hear the first bars)

Also not crazy about Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall"
Sex Panther

Jefferson Starship - Jane

Used perfectly in the intro of Wet Hot American Summer as well...

Not really an Eagles fan, but the 1st thing I thought of when I saw the topic was "Life in the Fast Lane". Actually, I'm a big Joe Walsh fan so that intro doesn't really count as "Eagles".

I'll vote "Unchained" as the best.

Oh, and special Lifetime Achievement goes to The Beatles, who have too many to mention...but I'll throw out 3. "Helter Skelter" (1st heavy metal intro?), "Eight Days a Week" (first fade up intro?), and "I Feel Fine" (first use of feedback?), and I'll add one more...."Taxman" (love the thick English 1, 2, 3, 4...1, 2)
