I was thinking of the baby Rancor that crash lands on Tattooine in Tales from Jabbas Palace. Which was Jabbas Rancor, just before it was Jabbas.
You are redeemed 10000% for having read the Tales book. I'm going to assume you also read Tales from the Bounty Hunters? I could read those stories every day for the rest of my life.

I think the Plagueis book was the last thing that came out before they moved to the new timeline. But clearly a ton of stuff has re-entered the vernacular because they were good ideas- Thrawn, the nightsisters of Dathomir, a ton of Mando culture including the beskar, etc.

I'm getting old. I was thinking it was one of the first things put out after Disney took over.
I think maybe timewise it was, but they counted it as the last non- new canon book because of the planning date.

It's a tremendous shame because it would be a phenomenal movie or mini-series, starting with Plagueis killing Tenebrous and completely reshaping some events of the Phantom Menace, while tying i probably 10-15 other media pieces from the prequel era and giving birth to some really phenomenal artwork as well. I just listened to the audio book and there's a scene on Coruscant where Plagueis gets ambushes by these assassins and just about dies that would be such a great movie scene.

Tim Zahn will always be the SW GOAT author for me, but Matthews Stover has some amazing titles as well including this one, the Mace Windu Apocalypse Now novel "Shatterpoint", and a really fascinating look at how diffferent Jedi & Sith view the force in the ROTS novelization.
Point of fact: the Darth Plagueis novel was written by James Luceno, not Matthew Stover.

Matthew Stover IS great though! Traitor was my favorite book in the NJO saga.

Was that the one with the spider thing in outer space that was the bounty hunter mastermind?

I really enjoyed the tales from Mos eisley cantina (or at least I did 25 years ago). Took some characters that were maybe on screen for 2 seconds and built whole interweaving storylines. It would be interesting to see how they were able to hold those anthologies with the intertwined and building stories.

No the Spider thing was the Bounty Hunter wars

Tales of Mos Eisley Cantina is also incredible.

Tales of the Bounty Hunters is from the 5 that are on the Han Solo pursuit

IG-88s is about him being attaining sentience by mistake and becoming a bounty hunter in a quest to take over all computer systems everywhere including the Second Death Star.

Bossk's tale is all about the Trandoshans scale of the hunt and his tenuous partnership with a female human bounty hunter and her droid trying to doublecross him

4LOM and Zuckuss is about the two of them being totally freaked out that Vader will find out they had previously helped the Rebels on Hoth

Dengar's is his personal vendetta against Han Solo from a swoop race, the results of which put him in the bandages as a kid. He has a GREAT scene with Vader.

Boba Fett's tells a completely different back story, with him having been the "Journeyman Protector" Jaster Mereel who became a BH and is very isolated. After he brings in some guy who has this huge collection of music from centuries ago, the guy begs Fett to save the music, and Fett listens to it - sort of like the opera scene in Shawshank. It really shakes him up and he starts questioning what he's doing with his life. This is set several years after ROTJ with him escaping the Sarlaac. On Coruscant, Han Solo is having the same sort of midlife crisis and sneaks off world to a planet where he once won a fighting championship. They happen to see each other from afar, and the story ends (spoiler alert) with them both coming round a corner right into each other with weapons drawn, and neither knowing what to do.

I think about the IG-88 story periodically. I should read it again. And the "Look, sir Droids" guy from Tales from the Cantina.

I would love it if Disney would make these stories into little shorts. But I know that will never happen.

IG-88 ****ing with Palpatine on DS2 is a standout moment.
Also the way Boba Fett routinely makes IG88 his ***** when they go after the same bounty.

Tales from the New Republic and Tales from the Empire aren't quite as memorable, but there is a Thrawn story in there from Timothy Zahn where I believe he is wearing Boba Fett's armor for some reason.

the "From a Certain Point of View" stories that have come out the last few years have been woeful by comparison.

Agreed. I only made it through 3/4 of the New Hope one. The new ones were too much about relating our world to Star Wars. Where the original Tales were about playing within the Star Wars and taking these characters on wild adventures. It felt like the EU understood that Star Wars can be ridiculous and fun at times. The new Disney stuff tends to miss the boat.

That being said, I would enjoy it if Disney made a Doctor Aphra movie or show. I listen to an audiobook with her and it was great fun.

I must've read this 30 years ago but their standoff at the end still sticks with me. A great ending for that particular iteration of Han and Boba, even if ambiguous.

I tend to remember the Boba Fett story in Tales from Jabba's palace more. I'll have to re-read the Tales of the Bounty Hunter one.

they tried it in Andor S1 and it got shot down.

I'm not opposed to it but it needs to have a strong reason why….seems like a weird thing to say over a single word but it's no different than adding anything else to a project other than to say, "we did it" and it have no point to the story….

Thought S1 with where they had planned was a perfect place IF they were going to do it so only if there's a moment like that in S2….

Random musing of the day. I am in Project Management for an Energy Company; and I randomly cogitated about this quote from Darth Vader, Lord of the Sith, Right Hand Thug of Emperor Palpatine, Slaughterer of Younglings, Nemesis of Jedi...

Quote:

Darth Vader: You may dispense with the pleasantries, Commander. I'm here to put you back on schedule.
Jerjerrod: I assure you, Lord Vader, my men are working as fast as they can.
Vader: Perhaps I can find new ways to motivate them.
Jerjerrod: I tell you, this station will be operational as planned.
Vader: The Emperor does not share your optimistic appraisal of the situation.

I knew the internet would have fleshed this out, so I give you:

Come to think of it, why was he even on the Council? Is their cadre of senior executives so hard up for competent people that they needed a dude that was Jedi home-schooled? What was his role, Secretary of Puberty?
