I don't hate the Rey character. I wish they had done the whole thing with Hamill/Luke where he rebuilds the order but they can do it with Rey too. Daisy Ridley is likeable and I think I would enjoy watching Rey's character stumble and grow to become a real Jedi Master instead of the "chosen one 2.0" speedrun we got in the ST.

How many times are you going to post this exact same sentiment, based on nothing more than the opinions of your kids and their circle of friends? This has to be like the 20th time you've said this, as if it's some irrefutable fact, when it's nothing more than a subjective opinion, based on an incredibly limited sample size.

I have no doubt that kids today aren't as in to Star Wars as generations past. Nor am I saying that boys would line up to see Rey again. But going forward, there absolutely IS a sizable audience out there for Rey-centric Star Wars content. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Disney/Lucasfilm can make another Rey movie or two and ALSO make "bloody war" Star Wars movies for boys. The franchise can be multiple things to multiple people. It doesn't have to be just for boys. The trick is finding the right balance between the two.

I think movies today in general are nowhere near the events they used to be. Movie used to really stick in the cultural zeitgeist...now, not so much. Movies like Avatar make billions...then disappear like a fart in the wind

For those suggesting a reboot, what exactly does that mean? If that means new actors portraying Luke, Leia and Han at the characters' age when we first met them (i.e., not younger/older versions of the characters), then nope. That should NEVER happen. If we mean an all new Star Wars with absolutely no characters that we have seen before, set either before the PT or after the ST, then absolutely yes. Which I am thinking the movie that the Logan/Dial of Destiny director is making would fall into that category.

I think generally the reboot crowd is advocates for 9 movies they can tell a coherent story and aesthetically fits together. Hopefully with one vision.

Recasting being the biggest hurdle.

Personally, I think the Skywalker Saga is dead. I don't think Disney is capable of inventing a new villain that will work for Rey movies. The decisions of the ST are pretty damaging to the brand overall. The future of Skywalker Saga characters is probably Grogu. With him you can fast forward a couple hundred of years and set up a new conflict.

But if I was the head of Disney, I wouldn't do that.

I would announce a new set of movies, I would either tell one of the following four stories:

1. Jedi vs Mandalorian wars.
2. Ulic Qel Droma
3. The Sith Emperor
4. New Old Republic Era story.

Then I would do as DC/WB did/does and start up an animation arm to bring as much of the EU back as animated stories on Disney+. Do things like the Thrawn trilogy/Shadows of the Empire/Infinities/Tales/Rogue Squadron/New Jedi Order, etc.

Let the merch sponsors have a field day.

You don't think somehow….palpatine will return….again.

Considering he lives in Rey, he's never ever really gone. Maybe this will be the theme song for the next trilogy.

It's no surprise to me, I am my own worst enemy, because Disney made me a living palpatine.

I think generally the reboot crowd is advocates for 9 movies they can tell a coherent story and aesthetically fits together. Hopefully with one vision. The story was coherent across the first 6 movies, with perhaps some nitpicky inconsistencies that resulted probably more from all the years between the two trilogies.

Recasting being the biggest hurdle. This would be a non-starter for me.

Personally, I think the Skywalker Saga is dead. I don't think Disney is capable of inventing a new villain that will work for Rey movies. I liked The Force Awakens, but even while watching it the first night, I recognized it as a retelling of the original Star Wars movie. The rest of the ST through toilet water all over TFA such to the point that I never watch any of those. The decisions of the ST are pretty damaging to the brand overall. The future of Skywalker Saga characters is probably Grogu. With him you can fast forward a couple hundred of years and set up a new conflict. Grogu is fine as a character, but I wouldn't build much more than a movie or two around his character.

But if I was the head of Disney, I wouldn't do that.

I would announce a new set of movies, I would either tell one of the following four stories:

1. Jedi vs Mandalorian wars. Yes
2. Ulic Qel Droma I may be a life-long Star Wars nut, but I've never heard of this. Comics or EU?
3. The Sith Emperor See Return of the Jedi
4. New Old Republic Era story. Most definitely yes

Then I would do as DC/WB did/does and start up an animation arm to bring as much of the EU back as animated stories on Disney+. Do things like the Thrawn trilogy/Shadows of the Empire/Infinities/Tales/Rogue Squadron/New Jedi Order, etc. Disney is sitting on top of a mountain of money. They can afford to make live action movies, i.e. Rogue Squadron. There is certainly room for animation, but it isn't going to appeal as much as live action will. I watched most of The Clone Wars, and when I finally got around to Rebels, I was very much impressed with that, but never bothered with the animated show about the Resistance (too much of a tie to the ST) or any of the other shows that have been made recently.

Let the merch sponsors have a field day.

Your're on an island.

The young peeps don't care. At all. Gen X can't hold this thing. No one really cares about the ST or it's characters and that includes Rey. No one.

Sorry, not trying to be a dick but this is a terrible choice by Disney.

If they really want to bring back SW then put out movies and series about bloody war between the rebels and the Empire and the aftermath. That gets the boys back in. That is 100% what Disney needs to restart SW. Boys are checked out. Reality. They don't care at all.

No one?
I have an immediate circle of at least 8-10 people including four girls and two boys between the ages of 12-21, who LOVE those movies, love Rey, love Kylo, love BB-8, etc.

And I'm going to take the wild guess that they aren't the lone young people in the world that do. I'm fine with the debates, but this all-encompassing opinion that everyone dislikes the sequels just makes you look like a person on twitter yelling that everything is either the best or the worst.

But your kids and their friends aren't friends with his kid and their friends, therefore your sample size doesn't matter. Because... reasons. And by god, he will state this "fact" another dozen times, no matter how much evidence is introduced to the contrary.

Whether we like it or not, Luke, Leia, Han, Vader, etc WILL be recast in our lifetimes. It's only a matter of time as to when the reboot will happen... 10, 15, 20 years down the line...

Well they didn't let that happen the first time and I wouldn't trust them to let it happen in a second go

Vacuum opinions are silly. If you ask either of my daughters to name an NFL player, they can tell you Tom Brady because there was a book about him in the library in their elementary school and JJ Watt because of all the commericals he was on. One has a circle of friends who is all about Roblox, coding, and Nintendo Switch, the other's circle of friends is all about Sephora, T Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, and Stanleys. By that logic, the NFL is dead with young people and has failed.

It was so bad and yet I couldn't stop watching.

It mixed in some Indiana Jones and some Star Wars elements, but even Gal Gadot's hotness couldn't save it.

High on my list of "Best trailer / worst movie" along with the first Hobbit movie.

Having Rey as a Jedi Master and another young female actress like Gal Gadot forming a splinter group of Jedi would be an interesting take. Have them doing more like heroic stuff, but eventually falling into the "might makes right" mentality. Like in the "Justice Lords" episode of Justice League where Superman finally just kills Lex Luthor to stop him from hurting millions of people in the future and then the Superfriends become Big Brother for the whole world.

A couple of points, the prequel trilogy and the OT create the biggest logical inconsistency in that Vader killed countless children and is able to be redeemed in ROTJ and Obi-Wan kinda shrugs it off. In fact it kinda gets hand-waved away by everyone. Not to mention, the style of the films reflects to almost 20 year gap in them. And you get some other oddities such as Vader building C-3PO and then not recognizing him. Obi-Wan wearing Jedi robes out in the open. Anakin becoming a Force Ghost in ROTJ when it is a skill that supposedly needs to be taught in ROTS.

Animated is in my mind the easiest way to get around the recasting issue to bring the EU to the screen. If you want the Thrawn Trilogy, you either recast or go animated. Star Wars is a great vehicle for animation. Is it the most profitable? Probably not, but it would bring goodwill and gives you more Disney+ content. Personally, I would love more EU to get adapted and animation seems like the most realistic path to getting that.

Ulic Qel Droma is EU-Comics. https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Ulic_Qel-Droma/Legends

He is a great Jedi and a great Sith Lord, who has a
semi-plausible redemption story. Lots of good side characters. Kinda of the foundation that KOTOR is built on.

The Sith Emperor is not Palpatine. He is the big bad of the KOTOR universe of games. Mainly in the MMO SWTOR. They kinda tried to set him up as the most powerful Sith ever. He travels through multiple bodies/hosts. I think they were trying to set him up as the model Palpatine was trying to emulate.

I'm very interested to see if they can get it done. One prop I give the movies is that they actually did a decent job of filming all the movies in a hair under 10 years and the kids didn't really age out of it too much. Nowadays it seems like everything takes so much longer like Stranger Things taking 9 years for 5 seasons.
