Yoda would have been like 600 years old in this time period. Maybe he knows about the sith because he's really really old. How does someone writing a Star Wars story not know that?
Who doesn't know about it? I'm confused.
I think he means the people writing for the Acolyte. As we have discussed, if Yoda is in the show and the show has Sith, it's a real problem with the plot around episode 1

Oh I see.
in the High Republic book series, which I'm really behind on, Yoda is on somewhat of a leave of absence, teaching younglings on some sort of mobile space Temple or a space station I can't remember.
So he's not really directly involved in the plot for a good bit.

In the ROTS novelization, Yoda talks about being trained by his own masters to fight the old Sith - warlords, big muscleboudn dudes who were all about vanity and glory, and that he hadn't been able to sense the return of the sith in Palpatine because he had been training himself and the other Jedi to fight an enemy that no longer existed.

It seems entirely possible that whoever is in the helmet with the Red lightsaber could never been seen by anyone who actually survives, or possibly the Jedi convince themselves that it's not really a Sith at all. Could be an early Knight of Ren for all we know; the style is similar.

Until the show is out,, it's hard to really say because there seem to be a lot of defintions of who the bad guys are being tossed around.

I agree with all you're saying, and I guess the only thing is to hope the writers know what they're doing

My first ever Star Wars fanfic (haters gonna hate) was about Vader sitting there and getting lost in thought, losing track of time, and Han shooting and killing him when the doors opened. Hilarity ensued (at least that's the way i remember it).

I also had one set in this scene from Return of the Jedi that was about Wedge about to speak up to join General Solo's strike team on Endor, and then getting upstaged first by Chewie, then by Leia, then by Luke, and finally just screaming at them about how GD entitled they are when he's been in the Rebellion for years.

"The character of Mae was rooted in a very early idea I had, even before we had her character, which was: do the Jedi have a monopoly on the Force? Or are there Force users that exist in the galaxy, who are either dealt with and disposed of, or do they have to keep themselves hidden? Are they good guys or bad guys?"

Sometimes I feel crazy, but for as long as I can remember, I never thought the Jedi had a monopoly of the Force. There have been countless force users that weren't Jedi. Starting with the Emperor in Empire Strikes Back.

Heck even KOTOR 2 basically had non-Jedi Force users. You turn some of your companions into Force users.

That being said I am super excited this is taking beats from KOTOR 2.

This… what a novel idea that's been explored countless times (expanded universe)…

It's still crazy to me that this movie comes out TWO YEARS from today, yet apparently starts filming next month. At this point, those Luke rumors have to be true…

Half the movie is going to be Boba Fett bragging about the time he got Luke with his whip cord like in The Fighter when Christian Bale is always bragging about knocking down Sugar Ray Leonard.

How many times has this thread cast a KOTOR or KOTOR movie, 50?

If Ron Pearlman dies without at least being the voice of a Canderous Ordo in an animated KOTOR, I will burn Utica to the ground.

For the life of me, I don't understand why Disney refuses to make KOTOR/The Old Republic content. In a copycat industry they could make Star Wars "Game of Thrones" in this era. Endless Dark Lords, Jedi, Mandolarians, crazy MacGuffins, whatever. They could go buck wild without any real constraints.

But it seems in general fans love this era, but the powers that be seem skittish about it.

I've always hoped they had something major plan, but doesn't sound like it. The "First Jedi" movie will be eons pre KOTOR. I would save and pay Disney $1 million if they let me write the script, and I'd make sure Jolee Bindo's I did it all for the Wookiee joke got in there.

I have to admit that I was (and maybe still am) very skeptical of this whole production, but reading the quotes/notes from and about the show maker are giving me some optimism.

I am also glad this is 100 years prior to Ep. 1. I, personally, didn't want any chance of a young Palpatine somehow showing up.

As far as "what is this show about?" I think based on a line from the trailer, and a quote provided above, it's about exploring what if the Jedi were seen as oppressive to other groups in the galaxy.

I do still wonder that if an actual Sith shows up, how does it not kill every single Jedi it encounters and maintain the "been extinct for a millennia" comment from Episode 1. Yoda, imo, did always have a somewhat strange reaction to that little bit of dialogue when one of the other Jedi says "Don't think they could return without us knowing."

I love this basic idea, but it's one the entire trailer should have been built around.

Open with, say, the black witch character, played Jodie Turner-Smith, speaking of an oppressive force (no pun intended) in the galaxy, mixing in her already existing lines in the trailer. Basically, spend the first 30 seconds or so building up/teasing this menacing group whom we're sure are the new villains of the series, have another character ask something along the lines of "Who could ever wield such power?" then CUT TO: light sabers being ignited by a group of Jedi, answering that very question.

There's your "Oh sh*t" moment, and I'm all the way in.

From there, preface the already existing tagline with a title card or two that says something like...

"BEFORE THE CLONE WARS"

... series of shots...

"BEFORE THE PHANTOM MENACE"

... series of shots...

"IN AN AGE OF LIGHT"

... series of shots...

"A DARKNESS RISES"

... etc, etc.

Something along those lines.

Otherwise, there's no hook in this trailer. There's no conceptual framing, no historical framing, and no contrasting it to everything we've already seen before.

Lucasfilm reads TexAgs, confirmed...

Yeah; I only trust my own eyes and senses on this stuff…

These are the same type of people that thought Snow Piercer and Hurt Locker were top notch films…

I appreciate the excitement. I really do.

But I hate the style of writing reviewers use to write their tweets because it all comes across fake and rehearsed. The "I'm obsessed!" "…is my new favorite!" just comes across as disingenuous.

The holocron and Joseph Deckelmeier reviews are great cause they actually tell us something substantial but the others just make me roll my eyes

The Hurt Locker was incredible. Snow Piercer was admittedly weird as hell, but at least original and unique.

I knew that would twist you off…

I hated Hurt Locker, passionately. I like Renner a lot and think he did well with what he was told to do. But the backdrop of the story and all the things he was running around doing military-wise was complete bologna. I can't get past that. If you never served, especially in OIF / OEF you wouldn't understand.

Of course I have.

Easy layup is more appropriate in this context.
