Disney had its Q1 shareholder meeting today and Iger confirmed Mando/Grogu movie for 2026 and there was a nice 1 minute teaser of Bad Batch, but nothing else significant then, so who knows.

expectations should be a low as possible.

Disney is too much of a control freak in trying to control the narrative to let a second tier genre magazine be the first to put something out there. Especially with how Disney wants to lead in repairing their image and trust/faith with their fans.

this is almost certainly an EMPIRE magazine project, maybe a prequel retrospective they put together as I suggested earlier, rather than a joint Empire/Disney marketing push.

Otherwise, Disney official or Star Wars official twitter/whatnot would ALSO be mentioning this.

A prequel retrospective definitely makes the most sense, seeing as this May marks the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace. Pump out all kinds of interviews and behind-the-scenes stuff, possibly kicking off with Ewan McGergor/Obi-Wan in some way.

That's a good thought. When I was at Disney in November, the stores were stuffed to the gills with new Prequel stuff from TPM.

I've gone down the rabbit hole. Empire did 2 huge Star Wars covers in 1999. June 1999 was the magazine's 10th birthday special, so perhaps this is their 35th birthday special? Ewan was on the cover of that one.




Then they had an 80-page exclusive all about the franchise that August.



I can't get over how young Duke Kaboom looks in this cover for the Matrix.



Ewan's been on their cover multiple times since, twice for AOTC and once for ROTS. They do a lot of "non-preview" covers of Star Wars as well, just for the heck of it in years where there is not a movie coming out, so perhaps it's related to that.

actually from something i found on youtube there was apparently a deleted scene from RotS where it shows grevious at the beginning in a lightsaber fight with mace windu and another female jedi....female jedi gets killed but greivous gets his chest crushed by windu using the force and that's why he's coughing throughout......

I've typically been against Lucas film digital enhancements on decades old movies, but I'm a little worried that the CGI has aged very poorly and will look pretty bad on a modern big screen. Maybe they can touch this one up.

And maybe re-record some JarJar dialogue.

Well I don't believe that's quite the 25th anniversary, as I recall it coming out on May 19, but I'll take it.

This is the only Star Wars movie my wife hasn't been able to sit through (all attempted viewings at home). Perhaps I can actually get her to see the greatness (in its own way) of this movie with a theatrical viewing.

It's also celebrating May 4th.

I watched the 3D re-release in CS in 2011, and that was an absolute blast. A packed theater full of nerds with lightsabers hooping and hollering.
