I learned something about SW I had never heard of last night. My daughter and I were watching the Netflix series "The Toys That Made Us" about Star Wars toys and Kenner, and it brought up that Kenner had tried to promote its own story line after Return of the Jedi in an attempt to keep creating new toys for kids to buy.
It was called "The Epic Continues" and they pitched it to Lucasfilm in 1986. The plot featured a mad scientist named Atha Prime who had been imprisoned by Palpatine for his role in the Clone Wars and was released when Palpatine died. He had "Cloen Shock Troopers" that he used to conquer worlds.
Moff Tarkin was revealed to have survived the Death Star explosion and returned to take over the Empire. And Luke and Han were helped by an alien species from Tatooine called the ... Mongo Beefhead Tribe.
Total story of it is here.
Apparently Lucasfilm heard the pitch and said no thanks with Lucas telling them he wanted to rest the brand for a while.
