I share the same concern in so much as Alden potentially coming off like a guy dressed up as Han for Halloween. Like the Hollywood Boulevard / struggling-actor-dressed-as-a-superhero-for-tourists version of Han Solo. He's my one big question mark, and it's obviously the most important factor in all of this.
That said, literally every other aspect of the production - from the writing, to the humor, to the action, to the cast, to the cinematography - has me extremely excited. It's written by Lawrence Kasdan and his son. And yes, Kasdan co-wrote The Force Awakens, but he also wrote The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark, and by all accounts this is an amazing screenplay. That, and at the very least this movie is going to look amazing, as it's shot by Bradford Young, one of the best up and coming cinematographers in the game, who shot Arrival, Selma, A Most Violent Year, and Ain't Them Bodies Saints - all stunningly well-shot movies. Other than that, I think with a good screenplay Ron Howard can absolutely get the job done.
Point is, I think at worst this is a fun, great-looking movie with a solid script and awesome supporting cast, just one that maybe feels like an expensive cosplay blockbuster. Though, if Alden brings the goods, and they can somehow truly capture the spirit of a young Han/Ford, I think this movie has serious potential. Like an even better version of Guardians of the Galaxy, but one grounded in a far more iconic world.
Either way, I can't believe this movie is only six months away and we know next to nothing about it. Hopefully we get a trailer soon, likely with The Last Jedi. There's not another movie I'm more curious about seeing the first footage for.
