Jakku was important to Palpatine for some reason that I think will tie into Rey's origin, but I doubt it goes so far as her being a daughter or granddaughter. We'll know more about that angle in February with Empire's End.
I'm pretty sold on her being a clone/reincarnation of someone particularly powerful that will have a light/dark balance. I'm also fairly certain Kenobi is involved her story, past or present. She's gonna be the Kwizadtz Haderach of the Force.

More family statements today that she is stable which is good news, but nothing that says she is communicating, or responding to stimuli or commands.

So, with the 2nd movie in the trilogies suppose to have an appendage cut off... I think it would be humorous, albeit a bit sadistic, to see Luke get his robot hand cut off!

Either way, just thought it would be somewhat humurous if one to get an appendage sliced off in this next movie was Luke and it was his same hand.

This. I haven't kept up with as much as many on this thread, but as a casual fan I assumed they would phase out the old cast and assumed she would die, etc. in VIII. If not, I wonder how this changes things...Junkhead said:

The family was reporting she's stable just recently. Can we assume doctors confirmed major brain damage so they decided to take her off life support?
I wouldn't go so far to assume it, but it could make sense.
