Indeed. I mean, I think he is saying they are looking for the right shots to tell the story that they want to tell, but it almost comes across that they are searching for a story from the clips. Sounds rudderless almost. A little bit of concern crept back into my mind after reading it.

I'd imagine they'll combine both motion capture and animatronic/puppet work for the character, most likely still Serkis providing the motion capture (a process that is often overhyped and requires a lot of animators to get it right).

EW has some footage of the the orchestra playing samples of two of Giacchino's songs. I wouldn't say these particular samples are destined to be iconic pieces of music but you can definitely hear how they were influenced by earlier Star Wars works

And a reminder, the premiere is tonight. It's safe to assume twitter reactions will start hitting the second it's over, but I still can't find what time the premiere actually starts. I would say 6 PM EST at the earliest, 7:30 PM at the latest, so I would start expecting reactions anywhere from 10:30 PM CST to midnight. If it is a 6 PM local start, I'll be at a La La Land Q&A screening at literally the exact same time, so I may not be back in time to post the second they start dropping, but should be soon after. Then again, anyone can obviously start posting them here. Just remember, anything beyond a vague, general reaction to the movie should go in the spoiler thread.

The music clips on EW are good... has an OT feel. Everything looks / sounds positive with this film, damn.

Quick version: Trying to avoid any accidental spoilers, particularly because I have a lower bar for what's a spoiler than a lot of people. But also, yes I'm trying to avoid other reactions if possible. I don't want my expectations to get too high if reaction is positive, and if it sucks I'd rather find that out Thursday than tonight.

Not sure, but highly unlikely it shot in 3D. Not sure many directors still do that outside of your big-time guys like Cameron and Jackson.

Much cheaper to post-convert. But it's gotten a lot better in recent years, imo.

Pretty sure it wasn't shot in 3D, but I could be wrong. I'm almost positive that TFA, this, and Episode VIII were all shot on either 35 or 60mm film.

Do you like 3D? Then I'd go for IMAX 3D. If there's any movie that is worth the extra charge, it's Star Wars, imo.

I'm doing XPLUS 3D (Showcase's premiere format) with Dolby Atmos. The IMAX theater I usually go to still doesn't do reserved seating, plus Showcase has leather recliners, so that's the only reason I'm not doing IMAX. Not taking any chances.

when done right, I really like the 3d. But i guess i am getting old, they seem too dark most of the time.

I ended up returning my regular 2D ArcLight tickets and instead getting 2D IMAX tickets at Universal City Walk. As far as I'm concerned, the Sh*tty Walk is one of the nine circles of hell, but A) it's the only 2D IMAX theater in LA, and B) the first seven minutes of Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk are reportedly playing before 2D IMAX showings (no word yet on 3D IMAX showings), which I don't want to miss. Seeing it next Saturday, a week from today.
