I'm pretty sure they said they use the real BB8 for shooting purposes so characters have something to interact with, but it will be replaced by CGI in the film. In the trailer, for example, it's head bobbles and I think the proportions are slightly different.
Still super cool that they took that extra step, though.

I have to say that those pictures for Rey, Finn, and Poe looks pretty awesome. Also like the Tusken style pike she carries.
