Yojimbo was the best one yet. I really enjoyed the western aspects of it, and the action was pretty good. I'm not a big fan of swordplay as an action genre, but it was done well. The guy that got killed when they kidnapped the son/heir was the least believable scene, with the huge blood spurts, but it was cool. Excellent story, and great acting. I would have liked to have seen Shimura in a role with more dialogue, but he gets more exposure in later films, so I'll just have to wait.

If you thought that blood spurt was over the top, wait until you see Sanjuro.

When, like Quentin Coryatt's The Hit, Explosion of Blood becomes enough information to identify the final duel in Sanjuro, you know it's got to be pretty memorable.

And though he was definitely shooting for over the top imagery in Yojimbo, give the katana it's due. It's built to slice deep - a severed artery could probably spurt more than I'd ever like to see.

And there you go.

I definitely still want to see Ikiru, and will probably try to see it on 4/25, rather than 4/27. The March of Dimes 'Walkamerica' is on the 27th, and after that I'll probably be too tired to want to bother leaving the house, even for a Kurosawa movie.
