I skimmed this thread and didn't see Chuck D mentioned anywhere. Ergo, this thread sucks and has no credibility. Ninja, I kept waiting for him to pop up on your list(s). For someone as versed in rap/hip hop as you, that's a pretty egregious oversight.

Embarrassing oversight. Chuck D is a top ten rapper ever. His voice is arguably one of the five best and his delivery is bested only by Ice Cube's. His vocal style was the equivalent of pressing a detonation button.

I brought up Chuck D/Public Enemy last year... Head Ninja owned his mistake.

I was really hoping to see more of a debate on why you think (insert here) is the greatest. As a lyricist? As a master of beats? The message? Arguments could be made for and against a lot of people mentioned here...

Lyrics, flow, persona, delivery, punchlines....BIG had it all. He is the GOAT.

I grew up on the East Coast for a good portion of my life (Philly). Accordingly, I was pro-East Coast hip-hop (Biggie, Nas, etc.). When the beef with the East-West coast became what it was back in the 90s, I hated anything west coast, including one of the most outspoken artists, Tupac.

It took me a while to be able to start listening to Tupac's music again (mainly from growing up and being less of a teenage piss ant and learning to respect all music).

Needless to say, based off of my experience, Tupac has had the largest impact on my life with respect to music. I acknowledged him at first before he moved to the West coast. Then, I hated him and his music. Finally, I started to really listen to his music and gained a true respect for most of his tracks.

Im surprised about all the love for Eminem too.

You cannot argue about his influence on the culture but I haven't been able to listen to any of his albums since High School. I just can't relate to his music.
