Just got back after taking my son to see it.
It was probably the most fun movie of the summer. Pretty much wall-to-wall action sequences, and lots of cool ninja s**t.
I think Paramount really f-ed this one up. Surely they saw that even a critically-hated film like TF2 still made it into the top 10 movies of all time at the boxoffice. This movie would have surely been critic-proof it's first weekend. Instead, they hid it from the critics, causing numerous stories right before it's release theorizing how awful it must be. Turns out: it's actually a blast, yet many potential viewers (like many on this thread) developed a negative opinion on it without even giving it a chance. That's just a wave of bad PR. Hopefully, good word of mouth will bring people in next weekend.
Hell, the Chronicle even gave it 2 1/2 stars today, so that good word of mouth is already starting.
