Just got back after taking my son to see it.

It was probably the most fun movie of the summer. Pretty much wall-to-wall action sequences, and lots of cool ninja s**t.

I think Paramount really f-ed this one up. Surely they saw that even a critically-hated film like TF2 still made it into the top 10 movies of all time at the boxoffice. This movie would have surely been critic-proof it's first weekend. Instead, they hid it from the critics, causing numerous stories right before it's release theorizing how awful it must be. Turns out: it's actually a blast, yet many potential viewers (like many on this thread) developed a negative opinion on it without even giving it a chance. That's just a wave of bad PR. Hopefully, good word of mouth will bring people in next weekend.

Hell, the Chronicle even gave it 2 1/2 stars today, so that good word of mouth is already starting.

was Brendan Fraser supposed to be Flint? He doesnt even get a credit for it on IMDB.

And Ripcord was white, breaker had a full beard and 'stache. They could have done better than the metal gear type breaker in the movie.

Movie was alright i HATED that they were NATO and not US.

i liked it a lot. it IS wall-to-wall action and you get to see things you always wished the cartoons would have been able to do. but they do pay homage to the back stories, history in several ways. it's just updated a bit.

only thing that was outrageously terrible imo was duke. man that guy was awful. other than that, just a couple of typical stupid things that i can sweep under the "mindless action blockbuster" rug.

Good movie.

All that backstory/romance crap is TOTALLY against everything I have ever seen on GI Joe. The only think REMOTELY close was Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes' background.

WTF?!

I went into expecting total crap, and it exceeded my expectations. Sandra Bullock's performance truly carried the day.

Welcome to the world of international box office...the rest of the world doesn't want to see movies about the US kicking ass, so they have to make it NATO to give the film marketability abroad.

Just got back from seeing it. Oh my god what a piece of CRAP of a trailer. Who ever put the trailer together should never work on a movie again.
The movie was MUCH better than expected. Went in expecting complete crap and was pleasantly surprised. Good popcorn summer flick.

Saw it friday night....I thought it was great....good summer flick.

I was pissed just like any childhood fan that it was freakin NATO and not the US.

not even that.. .the US got their ass kicked by Cobra and NATO had to come rescue them..

It's way worse than the first transformers, which is mostly beside the point, but I didn't say it was the worst movie on a screen ever. I said it's the worst movie I've ever seen on a screen. Reading comprehension, it's not that hard. It is the worst movie that I have ever spent money to go see.

terrible movie. but to be fair, just what i expected.

There are plenty on this site who will answer that question with a resounding Yes (in fact, I'm surprised the usual suspects haven't chimed in yet).

Ray Park was Darth Maul in Episode I, widely reviled by many on this site, present poster excluded.

I think he was being sarcastic...

Just got back from viewing it. Good popcorn flick, way better than ROTF. Tons of action. Some cheesy lines, but nothing disastrous.

I thought it captured how I viewed GIJoe growing up. Outrageous vehicles, outrageous characters, outrageous secret bases below the polar ice caps, etc.

However, nothing in the movie really follows the comic books, cartoon and real back stories.

This is why I refuse to see it. I don't need 100% faithfulness to the story of GI Joe and all the characters, but this is an irreparable error in my mind. The entire premise of GI Joe was the badassery of American awesomeness. Without America, it cannot be GI Joe.

I understand the whole international box office deal. If they want to make this movie, fine. But call it something else.

I just thought the concept of making "GI JOE" a NATO unit and then using the song "American Bad@ss" in the tv commercials was... weird.

My g/f and I saw it Saturday afternoon. We went in expecting a mindless action flick and bad acting... with that in mind, we thoroughly enjoyed the flick.

I don't hate movies very often, but that was the worst piece of crap I have ever seen in my life. I put it right there with the old Street Fighter movie. Which means over time I will end up liking it.

It was a high budget, poorly acted B film. More holes than a Shia LeBeouf movie. I will never get that part of my life back ever.

I was actually surprised that the backstory for Joe vs Cobra that they came up with was compelling and had some potential. What a waste.

I won't even get into the comedy of the realism of this one, except to say that there are several Dante's Peak "Jeep Tires Slinging Up Lava/Grandma Save Us From the Acid" type moments.

1)The CGI and effects made this movie look like it was 10 years old.

2)They threw together one of the crappier casts ever. Channing Tatum? Really, what was Paul Walker not availabele? Throw in a Wayons brother and Dennis Quaid...oh my. The only decent actor in the movie they hid behind a mask and a messed up voice for most of the time. Thank God they didnt go full screw-up and replace any of the hot women with someone like Michele Rodriguez.

3)I guess the plot and character interactions was typical and pretty much to be expected fro an action flick so I won't say too much bad about that. Watching it, it looked like they pretty much stole most of scenes for this movie. The beginning of the movie will be familair to anyone who saw transformers, the end to anyone who's seen A New Hope or Return of the Jedi. This was pretty close to being a parody. They could have named it Action Movie.

4)I think where they really dropped the ball was deciding to have everyone have weapons that looked like they might be invented 3 centuries from now. It really made their main plot focus, the nanomites, look tame in comparison to their "standard" weapons and armor. The vehicles were too futuristic. This was an especially bad decision in light of how bad the CGI needed for the futuristic weapons looked. It would have played much better with more conventional fighting and maybe more Daniel Craig as James Bond action sequences rather than "Lets make a cheap Transformers." Cobra and their nanomite enhancements should have been the only unrealistic "future-tech" in the show. The rest was a distraction.

it isn't going to win any oscars, but then again, if you went to see GI Joe expecting a life-altering movie, then that's your fault...not the film's

take it for what it was intended to be...a mindless action flick
