I'm still pissed about there being no Olympic flame this year.
The cauldron in the hot air balloon is made of LED lights projected onto a mist of water, which creates the illusion of a flame. The hot air balloon is filled with hydrogen and lowered at 2am where it is tethered during the day. The goal was to provide a flame appearance while avoiding the use of fossil fuels. It's being routed as some amazing feat of technology when I can buy essentially the same damn thing at party city for Halloween. I understand they want to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels but this is ****ing dumb.
I feel like people are going to look back and think, "remember how ****ing weird the Paris Olympics were?"
