Don't know if I ever told you this. But it took me an insanely long time to put together who your dad is, and the fact that I saw him pretty much every morning for a year or 2 (we parked in the same garage and got to work about the same time, and rode the elevator down most mornings- and then I had interaction with him through my job as well)

He was working there when I was in undergrad, too. It was hilarious when friends put the last names together and suddenly got nervous.
I could see that happening. I never had to deal with his "hardened" side. To me, he was always super personable and fun to talk to. (I worked in scholarships, so I did a decent amount with his office, and he was on the scholarship committee)

To be fair *to be faaaiiihhhrrree* not many people have the last name "Boots".
Now that he's retired he grew a beard and nobody recognizes him until he talks.
I had only ever seen him at work as a corps parent until I delivered pie to him. I had no idea he could smile.
Who couldn't smile when someone is delivering pie?
Just imagine being a child and getting lectured about homework/tests/grades.
