I rode a rental bike in Canada this week. Was meant to be a 72 mile ride and accidentally became a 117 mile ride with over 6,000 feet of climbing. But that extra distance did let me see this waterfall with a very small group instead of 100s of people since the road was closed off to vehicles still.

Yeah, but then I'd be in Corpus. Maine temps were in the mid-70s to low 80s. Corpus was, like, a thousand degrees.
Went to Amarillo and back to ETX in 8hrs today. Oldest got his first flight to go spend time with grandparents… thank you rewards points combos! What's normally a 10 hr drive just to get to Amarillo, was only an 8hr round trip. Landed in AMA deplaned and got to the back of the line to get back on same plane after handing him off through security. He's gonna have a blast…
For 50 bucks each way you can basically gate check the kid. Just did that with our 6 year old to Denver. She loved it.

$50 on top of the ticket haha. You taken your kid to the gate, then hand them off to someone that takes them to their seat on the plane and you have to stick around until the flight takes off. Then you designate someone to pick them up at the destination and they will need to get there a little early to get through security and make it to the gate. Then you do the same thing on the reverse trip.
In further proof that the world is a small place, the family that loved across the street from the home we just moved out of and rented out were on my daughters return flight home, inuding their 2 daughters who are somw of my kids best friends. They were all able to sit together on a single row. That was completely unplanned. Anyways, my daughter loved the experience and I think it taught her a lot about being responsible.

Gotcha thanks for the info. I do remember doing it myself as a kid but I think it was free, probably because pre-9/11 anyone could go up to the gates and didn't need a ticket. But I guess it's cheaper than a second ticket.

I did the same thing when I was that age and nobody thought twice about it. Pretty sure mom was able to come along with to the gate and see me get on the plane (Southwest / AUS->DAL->Hot Springs) and they had someone from the airline make sure I handled the layover ok. Grandparents were waiting when I arrived and nobody thought twice about it.Sea Speed said:

My brother and I used to ride on a greyhound bus back and forth between Victoria and Houston when we were around that age (probably just a little older).
