Random pic just taken at work, but I always get a kick at how the 777's engine nacelles seem the same size as the 717's fuselage

Just Googled it, and it's not an illusion. The 717 fuselage is 132 inches wide and the GE90-115 is 135 inches in diameter.
The 717 is thinner than I thought, because that 135 inches is just the fan. Add the nacelle around it, and the diameter is somewhere in the low 160s

In reference to the Spitfire/Hurricane discussion, the RAF still operates about 8 Spits, a couple of Hurris, a Dakota, and a Lancaster.

Mark Felton does some fantastic stuff that one can get lost in for hours.

Hey - I was stress lead on the composite horizontal we broke in at Ship 51. Fun program.

I saw one of your ilk taking off from JRB FTW yesterday morning - hadn't seen one of those fat boys in a while.

Saw these two at East Texas Regional this afternoon. Any idea what they are? I know there's a privately owned Mig out there. Sorry about the fencing, that's the best angle I could get.

The top one is a chain link fence.

The bottom is likely an L-39 Albatross or L-59 super albatross

Top maybe a two-seat version of a MIG 23?

Definitely a MIG-23 up top.
Definitely NOT T-45s on the bottom.

What is it then? I can see some differences vs the T-45 Goshawk a/c pictures on Google, but I can't find anything else even close.

I think it is some flavor of MIG - 27 on top. Bottom is painted up to look like a T-45, but its not. All the dimensions are off. Also, look at the gear on the T-45 vs this one, carrier aircraft have much beefier landing gear. Also, the wing is in the wrong place for a T-45 or a BAE Hawk which birthed the T-45.

I was fortunate enough to get to see the mock up of the T-45 and the Alpha Jet at NAS Chase Field in the late 70's or early 80's (cant remember) when they were in competition to replace the TA-4J and the T-2C. The did a sort of fly off. My Grandpa came and got me out of school to watch it. I still have the marketing materials they handed out for both aircraft someplace. I got to see a lot of cool stuff out there.

The top looks like a Mig-23U or Mig-23UB.

The bottom seems to be the Marchetti S-211 as mentioned earlier.

I've always been rather partial toward the Twin Otter:

That said, if I actually had the money and need for a turboprop of this size, I'd almost surely go with a King Air.

So are the opposing solos #5 and #6 now F models (2 seats) and the diamond are E models (single seat)? I have seen the Blues fly with a D model (2 seats) during the demo before, but that was due to plane availability.
