My neighbor's mailbox looks like crap. I just moved in 1 1/2 years ago and it was like this when I moved in. Apparently his wooden post mailbox broke off. So he just bought this plastic one and slid it over the broken post. He's incredibly lazy and definitely not a DIY person. He's a lawyer with several rental properties in the area so I know it's not a financial issue. He's a nice guy but just is lazy to even take action.

Any recommendations for how to make him think of fixing it correctly?

We are not in a HOA so that option is not available. I wrote the city but they said the don't regulate mailboxes as the USPS does that. I navigated the USPS site but could not find how to contact them about it.

Walk over and ask if you could fix it for him? $10 in materials and some labor is all it would take. Easy way to get on good terms with your neighbor and a lawyer if you ever need one or advice.

If I were you here is what I'd do. Load up with a new bottle of Maker's, go to my back porch and get blitzed. I guarantee this mailbox would be the last of your concerns.

-Mailbox $11.00 (there's a range but that's the cheapest)
-Hardware is nominal at this point. A few screws and you're in business.
Need tools???

So, all in you're about $50. Is it worth it to "fix" your problem while he's off lawyering one day????

-a cursory search of Home Depot so prices may vary.
