Highly entertaining. I love when you guys bag on "lol poors", but don't know what you're talking about.

Traditional cruising with a little style
Crystal cruises

Elite cruising
Sea Cloud

Chartering a yacht can be nice if you're more focused on privacy, sailing, and food. Sea Cloud can still get you that with high end cruise amenities such as private tours,
Full itineraries, etc.

Just wondering how much you make to be lolpoor compared to "rich". How do you know which the people are on the cruise?

Ours was 7 days on carnival. we didn't take the kids because we didn't think they would enjoy it at 3 and 5.

We never saw anything too trashy, insane or bad. The excursions were so so, not impressed with the beaches of Jamaica, caymans or Cozumel as Destin has better beaches.

Carnival is awesome. 5 day cruise with a window view in May for only $425/pp? Yes please.

My parents go know a lot of cruises. I wouldn't consider them lolpoor. I think they are even going on a short one during their trip to Greece this year.

Seabourn looks nice. It does look like their fleet is a little older than some of the others. I personally don't know anything about them. My question for them is what is the clientele like. Are they upright and snoody or low key? Which nationalities make up the largest demographics?

Its nice to dress up and endulge in a little luxury, but you want to have fun as well.

I think the average person would be surprised about how many boutique or high end vacation / travel options there are. The fact that they essentially don't advertise other than a website keeps them mostly word of mouth.

Any of y'all ever done one of those Windjammer Barefoot cruises or something similar? Looks like something the wife and I might enjoy but I've never known anybody who's actually been on one.

My parents go on the Windstar repositioning cruises once a year and they have good things to say. Much smaller boat and smaller crowd, though there are pretty much just retired people on there.

Have been on one cruise - it was on Seabourne - didn't expect to like it as much as I did. They have a new boat out with only 300 suites. Guests seemed to be a good mix of mid-age professionals and early retirement folks - not a lot of really old and no kids at all that I recall. Would use them again.

Some seniors live on cruise ships cheaper than they can assisted living.

I've got a 7 day with a view for that price next year. Can't wait. Love cruising. Never been on one I haven't liked. This will be my 5th.

Nope... Not common at all...

http://fortune.com/2015/04/15/5-cruise-lines-most-stomach-bug-outbreaks/

The odds of contracting are very low. However, cruise ships ARE the epicenter of Norovirus.
Now you are contradicting yourself. Earlier you posted that "Norovirus is very common on cruises", so which is it???

Looks like your reading comprehension skills need some fine tuning, or did you bother reading the article you posted....

From YOUR link:

quote:
But while cruise line outbreaks tend to grab headlines and air time, the reality is that the odds of getting a stomach bug on your cruise vacation are quite low. For example, more than 20 million people traveled on one of Cruise Lines International Association's 400-plus ships in 2013. That year, 1,409 passengers got sick in nine ship-wide outbreaks reported to the CDCthat's about 0.007% of all cruisers, or one out of every 14,000 or so who sailed that year. Even if you count people who got sick outside of these bigger outbreaks, the likelihood of getting ill is still lower than the news coverage would suggest.

By way of comparison, a high school basketball player has a far higher chance (0.03%) of eventually being drafted into the NBA, according to the National Association of Sports and Physical Education.

Next time you link to an article, you might want to read the entire article, it completely disproves your statement that "Norovirus is very common on cruises."

Went on a carnival cruise on freedom out of Galveston. I had low expectations and the cruise was great. Not luxury but it was good time. The best was my 2 kids had a blast and they took my 2 year old off my hands and changed his diaper. This carnival ship/service was better than the 2 other NCL ships I have been on.

Not mad at all, I just think it's stupid to link an article that proves your own point invalid. But hey, have at it, if the dude wants to argue with himself, carry on!

Nope don't work for the cruise industry, I have been retired for 5+ years now. Personally I could NOT care less if any of you like cruising, it's your money, spend it how you wish.

Edited, THANK YOU!

I enjoyed Carnival, and I don't really drink.

I did prefer Alaska over the Gulf. Granted is was an unusually cold summer, and my wife was pissed most of the time.

Been on a couple but it's been years so my experience is probably irrelevant. Sailed Carnival out of Miami after TAMU graduation. Except for my buddy hooking up with a 50+ cougar it was an awesome time for that point in life. About 10 years later sailed with wifey out of NO on a grandma boat. 500 passengers maybe? It was old but it was cheap and we enjoyed the trip and made numerous friends. The primary negative on the trip was they were a Pepsi ship which I didn't find out until after we left NO. Who makes drinks with Pepsi? Spent hella $ on a 12 pack of Coke when we docked in Cozumel.

Cruises are fun for partying and chasing women. Went on one for a bachelor party a few years ago during spring break and it was insanely fun. We had a huge group and tore it down. I apologize if any of y'all's wives were on a bachelorette party on the same ship.

We met and partied with a group of swingers off another cruise ship in Cozumel. Im sure things would have gotten very interesting if we were on their ship.

We've done a couple of Carnival cruises, mainly for the convenience of being able to go out of Galveston and also because it's a cheap way to take the kids to see some new places (albeit briefly).

We are looking at an Alaskan cruise for next spring/summer (no kids) and are probably going to go with Celebrity since we can get drinks, tips, internet, and some on-board credit thrown in for about the same price as a Carnival trip without all the perks.

you will want to spend the extra money or work to get upgraded to a balcony. We went on NCL out of Vancouver this past July and the inside passage was absolutely beautiful. I would also strongly consider an itinerary that take you through Glacier Bay.
