I don't want to think it, but there's no way only 5 are dead.

It started as a fire, was burning long enough to have firefighters on scene fighting the blaze when it blew up.
Ugh.... Really? Has anyone heard what fire departments were on the scene at the time of the explosion? Several friends are Waco firefighters....

Given the apparent size of the explosion, 100+ dead or more would moths surprising, especially if he fire was actively being combated. Hopefully though it isn't as bad as it could have been during a daytime event given the proximity to the schools.

Let's put it this way: the Oklahoma City bomb was a truck full of fertilizer. This was a fertilizer PLANT. Hold a thought for West, hard.
If we're thinking in those terms, the Texas City explosion was an entire ship (two) of fertilizer. Needless to say, it can do a LOT of damage.
Worst industrial accident in U.S. history (in terms of number of dead).
My grandparents were there. The 66th anniversary was yesterday.

How did that person with the cell phone footage survive?
That is beyond me...
quote:
You'd be surprised at the number of people who hang around to 1) help or 2) look at the pretty flames. They don't realize at the time that an explosion is coming.

Another tower is in danger of going up as well as some propane tanks/rail cars.
They have moved all command to the far south of town.
They have too many folks to coordinate right now. Very disjointed.

Except when it's a fertilizer plant, they know to get the hell away, and if not, someone else will probably tell them.
