I worked at the Batt from June 98 to May 99.

I really liked it...I was one of those people who was in and out of the office with nobody ever seeing me, though.

Was Jeff Kempf the editor at the time?

Mandy Cater-Graeber was the editor when I was there. Jeff had just started to work in Aggielife during the end of my time there. I worked in sports and covered cross country and track and field.

Since this thread is on the subject of softball, I also wrote the off-season training recap of the softball team and the preview for the upcoming season. Yay me.

Oh...I was just curious because Erin didn't look like much of a ball player...looks like my theory is shot.

Aggie tom, do you keep in touch with Mandy Cater- Graeber? What is she up to these days? I thought about her and her husband, Brad, the other day since I used to work at the Batt as well.

I played competitive softball for 10 years... started in the 2nd grade, and although I was a tomboy when I was younger, I am definatley not a lesbian. Men only.

No...Truthfully, I thought she didn't know who I was until she pointed me out at a 400 meeting one day when I was recognized as sportswriter of the week for "making cross-country interesting", whatever the hell that means.

She seemed pretty talented. I always thought she was criticized too harshly for that Bonfire pot article. Sometimes students get out of hand. Brad was managing editor at the time, correct?

Anyway, what section did you write for?

Aggietom...did you know Jeff? Did you ever go to any parties at his apartment when he lived in Treehouse II?

I went to high school with Jeff, but I didn't know him too well. We would definitely recognize each other if we saw each other on the street and say "hi", but we don't talk. I know from one of his friends that he lives in NYC.

We didn't really talk when we were both on staff. We just hung out with different crowds and are very different types of people. He always seemed nice enough.

Sorry...gone to lunch. Looks like I missed the change from the softball playing lesbians theme to the ex-Batt workers theme.

Yeah...I graduated from Cy-Fair. I know Chris Hull...He was on the track team with me. I'm surprised that he and Jeff were roommates, though.

My wife told me that a friend of Jeff's said he moved to NYC after graduation. I guess that would have been last year some time...

TC, have you seen the high school lately? I can barely recognize it now that it has been remodeled.

i have not driven by it recently, but they had been re-doing it for quite a while. i graduated in 93, so i am a bit older than you guys. you probably know my sister though.

Jeff graduated in May this year and moved to NYC.

He and I were close friends when we worked together. Him and Chris are both cool guys.

I went to Cypress Creek!

Aggie tom, I worked at the Batt from Jan. 1996 to Aug. 1997. I worked on the City Desk. I knew Brad better than Mandy.

As for the article that Mandy wrote, all I have to say is that your experience at the Batt is incomplete until you get criticized harshly for an article. I think most of us who worked there got criticized for an article at one point or another whether it was from Batt staffers or from the students.

I enjoyed my experience there. The only thing I regret is that I left on a sour note. But that's a story for another day over a couple of beers. =)
