Anyway, the school is pretty nice looking now. I live an hour away, but I saw it over Thanksgiving and every time I would go to A&M football games.

I was a fish when you were a senior, but I remember some people from your class that were in my Spanish III class. That school was so different from that point until when my sister graduated last year.

Well, I tried, but cross country is so non-controversial that it was pretty much impossible.

I had an article on recruitment of international elite runners who wanted access in to the US and how it was changing the face of college running. I even got the coach to take a stance on it. They shelved it. Oh well.

i only made it to spanish 2. the minimum i needed to not have to take it in college... but i was in it my senior year...

You and half the world went to Cy-Creek. I met more people from Cy-Creek up at A&M than any other school.

While I don't remember getting a mail call, I do remember having copies of my article plastered on the columns of Sbisa. I guess that's significant!

My first job in high school was at an ice cream store on that corner in the Randall's shopping center (closest to Grant Road). I went to Bleyl, too.

By the way, did 400 meetings annoy the crap out of you? I always had to wake up from my Friday afternoon slumber to go to those.

I didn't mind 400. I always kind of enjoyed it. I DID get a mail call letter, too!

(I wrote for the Batt in the Spring of 1990. I'm sure you guys were in kindergarten that year.)

Ah, the good ol' days. We lost to ya'll every year I was there. I hated going to school with crappy football. Then I went to A&M to see us go 6-6 my fish year. I called it the "Curse of Cy-Fair".

400 was different for you, Cajun.

If I remember correctly, it used to be a class. It just became a meeting at 4:00 later on, though. 4:00 on Fridays is a bad idea for anything.

My senior year was 1986. I think we went to bi-district that year. We may have beat you guys 4 out of 4 during my time in high school.

Cy-Fair was pretty damn good in 1986 and 1987. I think quarterfinals and semifinals in state those two years. Darrell Reed, 1988 Orange Bowl MVP, was on those teams.

Aggietom, I wouldn't say that I'm necessarily a better writer. It's just that any time you write an article that discusses how a former singing cadet underwent transgender surgery, well, it's bound to generate criticism along with other things. It's not like I proactively pursued such a story. My editor assigned it to me. I remember receiving the assignment and thinking about the reaction.

Yeah, 400 meetings were a pain in the rear. And I could never attend the gatherings at Duddley's afterward since I was underage at the time. Batt parties were always fun though.

Hey Cajun, when you worked at the Batt, did the editor-in-chief or any other Batt staffers live in the place above Loupot's on Northgate? I remember someone telling me that it was a ritual for the Batt editor(s) to live above Loupot's. I think it came with the territory of having a key position at the Batt. That's where the Batt parties were held in my day.

I don't recall ever hearing anything about the Loupot's deal. My editor was Scot O. Walker. He was editor like three semesters in a row; he was very good.

If that's the case, it's sad. Cy-Fair week was one of the most exiciting times every year. Cy-Fair Fairies was just a little saying we made up; that's all.

I graduated in 1998. Cy-Creek and Cy- fair sucked in football. Our bitter rival was Langham Creek. There have been two new schools added to the distric since I graduated though, so who knows what the rivalries are now?
