Not trying to post flame bait here, but every one that I've ever known has. Not that it's a bad thing. Just a very interesting sociological trait. What does everyone think?

Played softball as a child, or like in HS?

I played when I was a kid, and have no desire to play for the other team. I just joke about it to mess with my husband.

No, I played for 12 years and as much as my husbands wills it to be, it will not.

Well, I think from high school on up...it seems like the farther you get...the farther you go....

Hell, maybe it's just me. I'm just curious.

bohunk... you should look into soccer and basketball

your real question should be:

do all cuties who played softball as kids turn into adults who are as openminded as TCLTC?

My cousin plays college softball, and she's a lesbian. I don't know if she is gay because of softball, or if she played softball because she was gay.

TCLTC: Heh heh. Maybe THAT was what I was trying to ask.

Bohunk - My junior year at A&M, I dated a girl who played softball at UT-Arlington. Let me tell you, this girl was not only hot as hell, she was a tiger in the....well, you know what room. Now she was a pinch runner, not your typical beastly softball player. She was about 5'6, 120 pounds, lean and muscular, blonde.

Absolutely no muff diver tendencies

Damn those were good times.

A good friend of mine played softball at the colligate level. She said that about 1/2 the girls on most teams are out of the closet, and wonders about most of the other girls.

I'd try anything once... in fact, there's a girl I work with that is really hot and I KNOW how she is in bed because we share secrets.

Anyway... I think it'd be fun to try at least once considering another girl would know what might feel better to them.

Carry on...

I wouldn't be surprised if the percentage is higher among athletes than the regular population, but there are plenty of social explanations for that. The primary reason could be that most females are not encouraged to play sports (compared to guys) in order to be more "ladylike". So the girls who are already not as "ladylike" are more likely to play sports. Girls who try to act "ladylike" are less likely to do non-traditional gender activities such as sports, especially team sports and ones that emphasize power speed, as opposed to grace and finesse.

also, lesbians may feel that sports are a means in which they can achieve some status, thus self-selection into sports (especially more "masculine" sports like softball/baseball, basketball, etc.).

or maybe lesbians are just stronger and thus better suited for sports like softball, who knows.

a couple of years back, the sofball coach at Round Rock high got fired for having a lesbian affair with a student

Tom, I'm going to disagree with you. I have played sports since I was about 8 years old. To this day, I'll watch football rather than go shopping. I enjoy hunting and the outdoors, I drive a truck. I'm an ag major. I'm very much a tomboy, but I can be a lady too.

I think it's just more obvious in women athletes because they stand out. Everyday women don't have an opportunity to stand out therefore their homosexuality isn't as obvious.

tom... you're totally way off... but that's just my opinion.

i never even gave a second thought to chicks who dated chicks until i was 23... way after high school and after my 5-year boyfriend and i broke up. i didn't even consider it when i LIVED WITH A LESBIAN ROOMMATE!!!!

i never really thought about it until after all that... when i was out living by myself, and i met someone who asked me if i'd ever thought about it. i said "not really..." and proceeded to begin thinking about it and then one night she and i were riding in the car, stopped at a red light (we'd just been to taco cabana, ha ha) and i decided i'd kiss her. she kissed back.

what's absolutely hilarious to me is that i look back now, and there were soooo many girls i played softball with that were suuuuuch lesbians ans i was oblivious to it all.

Perhaps it is a predisposed condition and girls with lesbian tendencies are drawn to these sports.

or is that what tom said?

TC- but are you "representative" of lesbians in general (I would argue no, maybe bisexuals, but not lesbians). but to be honest, I don't really understand what your point is (no offense...what i mean is i don't see how what you've said agrees or disagrees with what i've said)

ag at OSU-why would lesbians stick out in softball any more than in regular life? I don't see why it would be any more noticeable (its not like you're going to see them kissing between innings or anything)
as far as the "lady" vs. "tomboy"...I was painting with a pretty broad brush, but my point is that many girls are less likely to play sports because they do not want to be viewed as "less of a girl". That doesn't mean all, and certainly you're an exception. But I think you probably know plenty of females that might fit this definition (and if you don't, its because you've selected friends similar to yourself) Again, I'm not saying that a female cannot be both athletic, tough and yet "ladylike". In fact, I would prefer that, but based on my experience, there aren't alot of females like that (although that is certainly changing).

What I am arguing is that those who are filtered into sports may be more likely to be those who are gender non-conformists. and of course, lesbians are gender non-conformists.

then why are so many... um... previous drill team members who end up being lesbian/bisexual strippers?

Damn...These are the type of people I should have hung out with at A&M.

Anyway, has any guy here ever been dating a girl who he thought could possibly be gay and not known it/come out yet?

That's jacked up. Since we're replying at different times, people may think we're the same person. This is just TOO crazy.

Speaking of same names...I found out there were 6 people at A&M the same time as me with the EXACT same name. That pissed me off.

I also wrote for The Batt (let the bashing begin), and there was a picture of some guy on the front page getting the crap knocked out of him playing mud football. The caption said "my name" gets sacked. I was frustrated because I had an article in there that day. Oh well.
