I get that if you don't have prelims, you can't have more than 9 athletes. But for the 800/1600/3200, you could easily run the top 2 from each region plus 8 wild cards. Heck, if you can invite 36 kids to Austin for a relay, you could do 16 for a distance race.

I thought so! That's a real bummer! She makes the regional and state meet must see! I hope she gets better for a great cross season in the fall!

Yes, she is bummed. She knows the importance of junior year. Also, she won't be healthy enough for some of the National meets she is invited to. Hopefully it won't affect her recruitment!

Lol it better not impact her recruiting! She is a monster and I'd waste 2 of the allotted 18 scholarships on her! She's going to make a college extremely happy! I was excited to see her be Littlefield at state in the 800!

Shewaye 5th at 10:49. Didn't even make Regionals.

30 million people in this state. UIL doesn't have to pretend it's still 1980.

She's the #4 seed in the 1600 later. Top 4 are all sub-5 milers, and the girl who beat her in the 3200 is 5th, and is a 9th grader. Shewaye will have a chance to dig deep and flex.

Shewaye hung on for 4th in the mile at 4:57.36. Beat the freshman by 0.3 seconds. FM sweep with the Humphries and Fox. 5 runners under 5 at area. Nuts.

INSANE! Wow! She's gonna have to take one of them down! Maybe her only being in the mile will help! But I had more faith in her for the 3200! Nevertheless I hope she does well at regionals!

My throwers went 4 for 5 in the throwing events at area! One had a rough day in shot put but came back strong in the discus! My top girl who started the season hurt and not able to do a full spin until late February is getting back into form and went for 152 and 43 Wednesday and my first year shot putter guy threw 52'4, regionals up next! I'm hoping to get my girl back to state for her third straight trip and it'll mean more this year after we didn't think she was gonna throw at all! And hoping one of my other boys has their best day next Friday and can sneak in! I love this sport!

Living in a city of 7 million people with ~64 6A schools, the regional is THE event. For those who have no chance of moving on, like our sophomore 4:27 miler, it's one last chance for him to dig in, go for a PR, and celebrate making it to regionals with his entire team cheering him on. For those with a real chance to move on to state, it's the same chance to try to be their best on the biggest day. The state meet is almost an afterthought except for the select future Olympians. My daughter would be the state champ in about 30 states, but she'll have to run the race of her life to take 3rd at regionals, and even better to make it to Austin. But what a fun 2 months it's been watching them run. A 3:53 4x4 may not win any state meets, but watching the anchor leg take down the same girl two weeks in a row from 25 yards back, first to win district, and then to win area, has been way more entertaining than most of the Aggie football games I've attended.

...and congrats to your throwers. It's funny when I'm at the meets and the club coaches know everybody in the race except my kid.

Best of luck to your daughter! The funny thing about regionals is that everything you did before then doesn't matter! I love to follow the stats and performance of everyone but I drill it into my kids that the only thing that matters is who has a great day on that day! I'll take a kid ranked 6th with a boatload of confidence than someone ranked in the top 2 that's going in nervous because there's a target on their back! This meet is mental and I try to make my kids feel that and become aware of that! Anything can happen! That's what makes it fun!

NIL will really have to dig deep to make it worth his while; He'd have to really love A&M to only accept < 1milllion for next year and arguably only next year. He'd have to weigh, "If I take < 1million next year to stay at A&M for JUST 1 YEAR can their training allow me to match or improve on this year's times such that I am still worth multi-millions next year if I don't improve". Realistically - that is the only question that could seriously be considered...(if he indeed loves A&M to defer for 1 year) otherwise....................HE GONE!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I'll be at the region 4 meet this weekend! My 3 throwers are competing! Did you see the qualifiers list on Milesplit! They have everyone who's competing and they have them ranked based on their area time! This is where I think all the 4x4's your daughter tan will pay off! It's gonna be close down the homestretch but who has the most top end speed and who wants it more will determine it! This is the time to leave nothing in the tank and get after it!

I hope so. They ran 4 miles this morning. I woulda had her running a 600 trial race to try to hit the split. I doubt those track girls have done a 4 mile run all year. But she was out there with the girls getting ready for the 1600 and the 3200. She hit the 400's hard early in the week, though. All you can do now is PR and see what happens.

Regionals is a big mental game! In my very short coaching career I've noticed how some athletes get complacent and worry about peaking and saving themselves this time of the year, but the athletes who still put in the work day to day these last few weeks will have the better days! Sometimes you need your absolute best day and other times you just need to have a better day than 14 other people lol! It's our job to keep them calm and relaxed! The pressure builds as we get closer and closer to the weekend, but we need to make sure they stay relaxed yet focused! They've put in the work all year now it's just time to have some fun and execute! My experience watching the distance races is everyone goes in with a strategy until that strategy unfolds like 200 meters in! It's best to just give yourself a chance and not leave any of it behind! There's always girls that will go out like crazy! Every year at regionals there's 2-3 that will go way ahead of pace and die out and then I've seen some leave too much in the tank and make up ground but just not enough, so the best thing to do is stay within striking distance, give yourself a chance, and let's the cards fall where they may! I'll say some prayers for your daughter and hope at the end of the day she's the one with a smile across her face as she passes the finish line!

I got 3 competing Friday, one has a 95% chance of advancing, another has a 20% chance, and another has about a 10% chance! They all have to be coached up differently and they all have to go in with a different mindset! Mostly everyone who gets to regionals gets there because they are great and a great competitor, most of the time besides a few outliers, the field is level, so it all comes down to the mental side and who's not going to fold! Your daughter is a senior and has a lot of race experience under her belt! She's negative split and she's led big! All those experiences will matter as it just comes down to who knows how to compete the day of! It's all a competition! We had one of our guys slow down the discus at area once we knew he would advance so we could get in the first flight at regionals and do damage there to get in the heads of the second flight! The more and more I coach the more I realize this sport is all one big mental competition! We just have to have our kids ready for it!

Madison Peters easily won the 3200 this morning. But we got 2nd and 4th, with Jenna Carter (Texas Tech) and Carly Ahrens (Houston). Of course the race was run at 9:40 a.m., eliminating any chance of the wild card coming from Region III (it wouldn't happen this year anyway).

Several very talented girls tried to stay with Peters early, but they forgot the goal of the race. It didn't end well for them.
