Why is her name spelled Mu but pronounced "Moe". Why isn't it pronounced "Moo"?

Her family immigrated from South Sudan. If you will just spend a little time studying South Sudan linguistics I think you will find your answer.

Yeah I think I will put that on my list of things to do.
NO AMNESTY!

in order for democrats, liberals, progressives et al to continue their illogical belief systems they have to pretend not to know a lot of things; by pretending "not to know" there is no guilt, no actual connection to conscience. Denial of truth allows easier trespass.

Annie's sponsor situation is that she doesn't have any.
The improvement she has made since World's is amazing and came with hard work and overcoming injuries and disappointments. She had to have several PB's this meet to get the standard and even to get 3rd place. In college Williams and Bougard were always ahead of her and I never thought of her winning. American Champion and Olympian Annie Kunz sounds pretty good.

Looks like Charokee Young did not make the Jamaican team in the 400M. Hopefully she gets invited to the relay pool. She came in 8th with a 52.1. She had such a good year this year.

Jazmine Fray came in second in the 800M but I am not sure if she has the Olympic standard.

Annie made her some money this weekend....which makes me happy. And yes, she was basically paying her own way before.

I'll look around, but not many countries have submitted a list! As of now I know Moitalel Mpoke will compete for Kenya in the 400 Hurdles and Tyra Gittens for Trinidad and Tabago in the Heptathlon and Long Jump. Not sure which older Aggies have a shot, I know Deon Lendore and Robert Grant could be in a relay pool for their countries 4x400 as well (Trinidad and Italy). I'll work on a list!

Thanks. I feel a little guilty about asking and not researching myself but i know you (and TRM) are far more knowledgeable than anyone else on this board. It will make watching the Olympics much more personal! ( and maybe add Look Out Below to that list !)

Lamara Distin won the Jamaican High Jump so she'll be there I believe.

I assume Lindon Victor will do the decathlon for Grenada

I think her best is 1.90 meters. The Olympic standard is 1.96 meters.

How do Olympic standards work? Are they waived for countries with one or very few participants? I mean I know they're a thing, but, unless I'm misremembering, it always seems like there is at least one participant when you watch the olympics that makes you ask what the hell they're doing there.

Olympic standards are pretty high. Some events have only like 10 qualifiers based on the standard for example the Heptathlon. The governing body selects from like the next 24/32(?) in the world to fill out the field provided there are no more than 3 athletes per country per event. The standard is waived for some countries for participation purposes but it's only for one athlete in one event or something like that. Generally, they have to go through an extra preliminary round.

This is why you see that. They are called Universality Places. But Jamaica certainly has athletes qualified in other events, so they don't get one.

"NOCs (National Olympic Committees) with no male or female qualified athlete or relay team will be allowed to enter their best ranked male athlete or their best ranked female athlete in one athletic event, with the exception of the Combined Events, 10,000m and 3000m Steeplechase."

Yes, if they don't have enough qualified people to fill the event field they can add based on World Rank. Unfortunately Distin is currently ranked #84 in the world so no real chance to get in that route. The entire competition is also limited to 1900 athletes. When they hit that number they stop adding.

"Following the end of the qualification period, World Athletics shall confirm the number of athletes having
achieved the entry standard plus the approved unqualified athletes and shall subsequently determine the
athletes qualified by virtue of their World Athletics World Rankings position. "

Yeah and the world rankings system is bogus. College track meets are held to a way less standard and earn athletes way less points. Although Lamara went to more meets and jumped better than some international pros her ranking will be much lower. Tyra is ranked 25th in the Heptathlon, 33rd in Long Jump, and 49th in high jump, although she has top ten marks in long jump and heptathlon!!! It's really dumb!

World Ranking BS example: Before the Trials Tara was ranked 17th in the LJ with her best 4 jumps being 7.17m, 6.97m, 6.97m. 6.93m. The 5th ranked in the world has her best 4 jumps being 6.85m, 6.80m, 6.76m, 6.74m. Just because Ivana Spanovic could afford going to various meets across Europe to beat people who couldn't score in the SEC

That interview is so unbelievably poised for a 19 year old. I also love her confidence. She has a God-given talent but also has worked incredibly hard, done very ounce of preparation required and therefore is willing to own her goals, expectations, and execution.

Man, I can't wait to watch her for years to come!

Exactly and it's crazy how she never ever feels satisfied with her runs! She's always like I knew I had it in me but I feel like I could've gone faster... I'm like what the hell haha! She has that championship mentality in her!
