The kid from Refugio is a beast. You wonder what his ceiling is when he gets challenged. I guess maybe he's done that in club, but in 2A he was just toying with everybody.
I guess we never had a shot with Nita Koom-Dadzie She's got Olympic trial talent right now.
My daughter tried to talk to Kentucky at Texas Relays, I think. That was unimpressive. Typical big school response, I guess, but you'd think after watching somebody track down 4 people on their 800 leg, and already having money and admission, you might at least make an effort...

The recruiting process was interesting! I went through it at smaller scale but seeing my track kids go through it was unique! I had one guy start the sport in February as a senior, became one of the best in the state! Was getting most or all of his college paid for by financial aid and some schools wouldn't give him the time of day, but SIGNED people with shorter marks! Like what goes through their minds! My kid just started learning the sport and was a foul away from qualifying for state in 5A and yet people wouldn't take him as a walk on! He ended up signing with UTA in July and I expect him to be great in a year or two!
My other athlete had a literal top ten mark in the country as a junior and would've received free tuition through financial aid as well so basically we assumed everyone would want her at a free price, but schools still turned her away after signing girls that threw like 8 feet less than her in shot put and 20 feet less in discus!
Got another kid going through the cycle right now as he's gonna be one of the top discus throwers in Texas so let's see how it goes! I think the city that we're from is used against us because it's a poorer town that has produced 1 power 5 athlete in our schools history and now 2 with the girl I coached lol! But this cycle should be fun! There is a lot of talent in Texas especially mid distance and distance so I'm excited to see how it all unfolds! The distance talent this year in Texas is actually insane, especially on the girls side! I've already seen some girls so sub 17 in the 5k
Top girl sprinter Adaejah Hodge from MVA picks her top 5 and Aggies doesn't make her top 5 in class of 2024. She chose LSU, USC, Texas, Georgia and Stanford.

Peters is a good get. Could be a miler, 3200, or XC runner. Not much of a kick. Won the Region 3 meet the past 2 seasons, would have been 3 straight if not for a 96 degree race start in 2021 when she was leading by a lot with 200 yards to go and gave out (Typical UIL disgraceful scheduling). She's never had a big day at state. Hope she can do it this time, because she posted a fantastic 17:23 at Regionals.

She has a 2:15 800 PR, but pretty much maxed out there. I still think she has potential at 3000. She's also won the Region 3 3200. The problem is all of these ridiculous times that come out of SLC, FM, and Lovejoy.

I've said this previously, but the state of Texas is strong distance wise! No reason why our cross country teams should not be improving and stacking talent! I know it'll be hard to pull the elite of the elite, but if we can continually land girls like Shewaye Johnson and Madison Peters and load the rosters with others, we can be in contention!
Texas takes a backseat to noone on talent. I do think the lack of an indoor track season makes it hard for the programs to transition from XC to track, and a lot of athletes get caught in no man's land.
Katherine Valentine from League City Clear Falls is another name. 4:53 miler, massive progressions, and a kick.
Also, and this may not be a popular opinion, but A&M needs to do a WAY better job identifying these tweeners, finding their spot, and TRAINING them.

Well, there's only 3k indoors or the steeple outdoors. The point scoring milers are going to be able to run sub 2:05 800. There's much more cross over between the mile/3k indoors than 1500/5k outdoors too.94chem said:TRM said:

Yeah Leachman is insane! Didn't see the race but not surprised if she got out hard and never slowed down! Every track race I saw her in, it was over 100 meters in! She's the most fearless runner I've seen. I hope she's smart the next 2.5 years because she is a special talent!

The top jumpers from Texas does seem to very interested in A&M and continue to go out of state.
Remember Jasmine Moore did a similar thing and went to Georgia and then Florida

Huge pick up!! Her and Maddie Peters are great pieces to build upon! I hope we can keep adding quality pieces!
Would love to see some surprises...things have been pretty quiet this fall...we shall see

On the women's side I don't really expect us to go after many throwers, I wanted to see us try to go after some elite jumpers and reload on the 400/800 combo. We need some more quality 400 runners to add depth to our 4x400, our sprint relay will be better, but we need some horizontal jumpers and some 800 runners, maybe a 400 hurdler! Distance has added Madison Peters who will contend for a top 5 spot on our team next year, we could use some more competitive depth there, some track distance specialists!
On the men's side, a lot hinges on the status of Assinga, but we have some talent on the shorts sprint side but we can use some more. Maybe one elite 400 runner, but we have depth there! We have 3 strong 800 runners, and we added John Baker in the long jump but still could use a triple jumper. We also need to reload the throws and add more distance runners to replace Casarez and Chhikara the following year!

They didn't last year, but if they did it'll maybe be in December after signing days end
