Great day for McLaren up in to 3rd in the constructors. Hate to see Checo's good race end like that, but as a McLaren fan I'll take it.

So many delays my 2.5 hour recording netted me just 32 laps....will adjust for the last 2 weeks.

I watched live this morning, but that problem is one of the reasons I love YouTube TV. It doesn't record based on time but based on when the actual show you want starts and finishes no matter how late it starts or long it runs.

Ran into the same issue. Recorded the evening showing and finished it this morning.

Friday night we went out to COTA for the COTALAND stuff and the Peppermint Parkway drive-through light display with the kiddo. She (4.5 y/o) loved the stuff at COTALAND (like a carnival, really, with rides and stuff, kind cheesy, but she had a ball) and the lights. We paid the extra to get a track lap, which was awesome. It wasn't a fast lap or anything, but driving around COTA in my car was pretty freaking amazing.

The way it worked was after the first tunnel of lights, the cars who paid for the track lap break of and drive into the paddock area, then into pit lane. Once there are a handful of cars (probably 10-15 in our group), you set off behind a pace car. We never got over about 45, and there's a trail car to make sure no one builds a big gap to go too fast, but I was still grinning ear to ear. Out of the pit lane and up to turn one. Even having been there 3 times for races, actually being on the track and seeing that hill is nuts. Then, the track just falls away going into turn 2. I tried to stick to the racing line, just for the hell of it, even at 30 mph, and clipped a couple of the curbs for fun.

Anyone in the Austin area, I recommend doing this. The kids will love it, and you get to drive an F1 track in your own car.

My Dish dvr/guide had some kind of glitch Thursday or Friday, and the timer I had set to record F1 races was changed to record Sportscenter. I noticed I had a bunch of Sportcenter episodes recorded Saturday evening, and checked the timers/schedule. Well I stupidly deleted the Sportscenter timer. So when I went to watch the race about 8:45am Sunday, it wasn't recorded.

And I'm so glad we didn't watch the start of the race live. I woke up and the first thing I saw was the Haas team tweet thankful that Romain wasn't hurt badly. If I had seen that fireball live I just would've assumed like everybody else that somebody 100% died.

I saw it in real time and it scared the living sh*t out of me. F2 lost a driver last year, and I thought for sure Romain was gone.

Man that is crazy.

I wonder what they're thinking right now in terms of fire safety. Big fires like that are so rare these days, but in reality it took way too long to put it out. So the fact that he came out relatively unscathed is down to the nose cone/safety cell, halo, firesuit, and HANS keeping him 1 - conscious and 2 - pretty much uninjured.

Because if he doesn't get out that car as quickly, it gets real bad for him in a hurry. The first responders fought like hell, but I don't see them jumping on a fire like that to try to pull him out.

Yeah I had the same thoughts. If you look at the video you can see the first responder trying to go in but it was way too hot. They were frantically trying to get that extinguisher started.

Yeah, that's what I did at first. But when I realized that they had stopped the race and I had only missed the first lap or two, I went back to espn2 and watched the rest.

starting to see headlines saying George Russell is the favourite for Hamilton's seat this weekend.

That would be pretty awesome.

Ah ok. So it's one of those weird "on loan" things the Euros do with sports leagues.

How does the on loan thing work exactly? Who pays what? Can the "owner" recall the loaner at any time? Or as with most things, it's on a case by case basis.

He's a Mercedes driver but under contract with Williams. Mercedes sees him as a strong future driver for their team. This is a great test opportunity for everyone. And I would assume Williams will be getting a decent payment/consideration from Mercedes in exchange.

And they tend to play nice with teams using their power plant.

Same deal with Ocon at Force India for a while.

Same thing Haas is going to be doing next year. Both their new drivers are Ferrari academy kids on "loan" to Haas, a Ferrari engine team.
