Well, howdy...again.
On Friday, Texas A&M head baseball coach Michael Earley announced the return of Nolan Cain to the program.
D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers was first to report the news, with TexAgs baseball analyst Ryan Brauninger confirming the move.
Beginning his second stint with the Maroon & White, Cain will serve in multiple roles and is known as one of the premier recruiters in the country.
Having previously stopped in Aggieland from 2022-24, he has inked eight top-10 prep classes during his time at LSU (2017-21), A&M and Texas (2025-26). Six of those classes have ranked among the nation's top five, not to mention D1Baseball's top-rated transfer portal class in 2023 while in Maroon & White.
During the course of his career, Cain has helped recruit and/or coach 20 players taken in the top three rounds of the MLB Draft since 2016, headlined by first-round picks Dylan Crews, Ty Floyd, Braden Montgomery and Jace LaViolette. Gavin Grahovac, Caden Sorrell and Aiden Robbins could join that list next month.
As a player at LSU, Cain pitched on the 2009 national championship team, appearing in Game 2 of the Men's College World Series championship series.
Hired away from his alma mater by Jim Schlossnagle in June of 2021, Cain helped the A&M program reach the final four of the MCWS in 2022 before falling one win shy of claiming the national title two years later.
Infamously, he followed his now-former-boss to Texas the next day.
During Cain's short two-year stay in Austin, the Longhorns claimed the 2025 SEC regular-season crown and reached Omaha in 2026.
Having obviously crossed paths with Earley during their time as assistants at A&M, Cain fills a vacancy left by Caleb Longley's Jan. 12 resignation.
Cain now joins a staff that includes former Major Leaguer and All-American Cliff Pennington, newly hired pitching coach Barry Enright and former MCWS catcher Troy Claunch, along with director of operations Jason Hutchins, director of pitching Dylan Olsonawski and strength coach Nate Friedman.
In 2026, A&M was 41-16 overall with a third-place finish in the SEC at 18-11.
Opening Day of the 2027 season is set for Friday, Feb. 19.
